“Snorkeling Heaven and Abundant Excellent Food”
Reviewed September 16, 2012

We arrived from Anchorage Beach Resort by boat transfer which took about half an hour. We had to wait a short while as we were an early check in. We were taken to our Ocean View Bure which was very adequate for our stay. We were so glad to have an Ocean View as we were in the western side of the island and in the afternoon heat we had about 15m of shady trees between us and the shoreline which kept the breezes cool and us shaded. The hammock was lovely. We knew it was a party island so asked for a bure that was as far away from the party as possible. Out of 5 nights we only were disturbed by some revelers on one night or should I say early morning. Not bad I thought. During the day water supply was interrupted but we had water when we needed. Any problems with the room were sorted out quick smart. I cannot say enough for the care and attention of the beautiful staff on the island. Loved the fact we didn't need shoes the whole time we were there. Soft sand everywhere. Got a work out walking through it. WE JUST HAD THE BEST TIME AND WOULD LOVE TO GO BACK.

Room Tip: You might want to bring your own drinking water though the desal water was ok.

The thing that amazed me most about beachcomber is that it's run by the same people as the anchorage and if you saw my review of that you would know I wasn't happy! We purchased 5 nights in beachcomber on a scoopon but this time we got everything on the voucher without a fight. Travelling with a 6 month old you think you won't get to do any of the fun stuff but aunty lesie, uncle ilijah and uncle wise were more than happy to babysit so I could go snorkelling. All staff were great so wonderful to my son but also to us. My friend lost her sunglasses when we got back in the boat after snorkelling and two of the guys spent ten minutes diving around looking for them until we told them not to worry.
The room was cleaned by sala everyday an he did everything she could to accommodate us and the baby.
My only suggestion would be to offer a non curry option on curry night. Not everyone can eat it and I had to chase staff in the take away shop to make me something I could buy.
All up a perfect week and defiantly value for money. Will be back to visit out new family next year

First time to Beachcomber, was a little disappointed., However, the beachfront bure we stayed in was literally on the beach - fantastic location but way too expensive considering there is no air-conditioning and the toilet was broken. Shower also wasn't very clean but the small couples pool just a short walk up from our bure was hidden, hardly used and right on the beach. You could use the pool till 3 am.

The daily room service was good however, we had Sala looking after us for three days. She was lovely and when I got food poisoning she was quickly there to look after me. But the big, female manager in the office was horrible. She ripped us off and wasn't friendly at all or apologetic for the things that weren't working in our room.

To top it off, there is no free internet access and the computers are terribly old and slow. The beach was OK, there are nicer ones with a coral reef surrounding them elsewhere like at Matamanoa Island. Luckily they had a tuck shop on the island, that's where I was eating everyday (They had nice calamari) instead of the Fijian buffet in the main bar that got me sick. Breakfast also finishes at 9am which is too early and isn't of good quality.

I'd recommend staying elsewhere in Fiji. Only go here if you want to get drunk with friends for two nights as the bar is pretty cool.

Room Tip: Fork out a little more for some privacy and get a beachfront bure. If you want a romantic holiday, g...

Bula,
Thank you for taking time to post a review. Yes the beachfront bures really are special. Sadly the 'couples' pool is being removed as there is a beach wing with accommodation, pool and bar about to begin construction.
The staff member that that you have praised will be given due credit and we have just employed a chef who was previously at another leading resort to ensure that the guest meals remain consistently very good.

The island was nice and the food better was than we'd had on another Island several years ago.

But faced with numerous bed bugs (and unsympathetic staff when told this) duty free perfume that went missing (again staff couldn't care less) and very expensive water (we spent $100 just on water for the 8 days the two of us were there) and happy hour prices were a joke! We wouldn't recommend going to Beachcomber

Room Tip: Check for bed bugs under sheets!

Bula,
We are glad to hear that you enjoyed the food and the island. I am sorry to hear of your less enjoyable experiences. Given the recent change in season there were common issues regarding insects across most island resorts, the unknown transportation of insects in guest bags from property to property can occasionally lead to a widespread problem that is beyond the control of, nor a bad reflection, against any individual property. When it does arise it is dealt with very quickly.
All of the resort is treated regularly for controllable pests that come and go from island resort properties. There is also the possibility of sea lice being the culprit.

It was a great end to our 2 weeks out in the Mamanucas and Yasawas to have a night on Beachcomber and most people there are pretty like-minded and up for getting a bit messy before having to leave.
The double room we stayed in was nice enough and had a fantastic hot water shower and was near enough to the bar area although even the furthest rooms are still only a minute or 2 away given the size of the island.
The buffet dinner we had there was delicious and plentiful and if you were still hungry afterwards there is a takeaway place to get hot dogs, chips etc. This was a nice touch as all the other places we went to only offered cookies and crisps if you were still peckish.
However the main reason people go to Beachcomber was for the party and it was a good laugh although by the sounds of it, it does really depend on what sort of people are there when you are.
The very strange thing was the price of drinks, they were all odd like $6.05 for a beer or $7.40!!! for a small bottle of water (extortionate). It’s definitely not as cheap as you’d expect although the 2 happy hours did make the beer a bit more reasonable.
It’s well worth a stop here just for a night or 2 before leaving the Islands.

Bula,
Thank you for taking the time to post another great review of Beachcomber Island. Bottled artesian water is sold on the island at $4.40 per 500ml and $7.15 per 1.5L, which in any foreign currency isn't a lot at all.

Thought I had made a terrible mistake after booking at beachcomber island as was told by many it was party island. Although we did feel tad elderly and would have like a few more mature people to chat to ( not that the younger set weren't pleasant enough they had eyes more on the talent of course!) ,we were pleasantly surprised by what a relaxing holiday we had. Our bure was very spacious, about 100 metres from the main bar, was private, right on the beach and actually very quiet.Sure the bathrooms were a bit old but weren't expecting 5star.We didn't hear any noise from those who partied hard at night. And the good news was it was very peaceful in the morning! .
We read, slept, snorkelled, dived and totally relaxed.
The staff were very pleasant and happy to help. Our room was serviced everyday and a nice touch our beds turned down etc at night.
The food. I loved the salads and the fresh fruit. Can never get enough of this.. Found the other food OK ish.Just too oily and fatty but hey you get fussy ( and elevated cholesterol !) with old age.
Not sure why it is so marketed as a party island as we just wanted a total relaxing holiday, (and weren't interested in partying) and that is exactly what we got. Bliss and many thanks!

Bula Vinaka,
Beachcomber has accommodation to suit all types of travelers, whether it is dormitories for back packers or lodges and bures for those who want a quiet, relaxing time. No matter who you are, you can find the perfect holiday here at Beachcomber.
The only terrible mistake that most people make is that they don't book in for long enough and are regretful when they leave. At the same time this is what makes people come back year after year.
We are happy that you had a relaxing holiday and look forward to you returning soon.

We stayed at Beachcomber last week and although the weather wasn't the best the friendly welcoming staff at Beachcomber made up for it. The staff were amazing, always helpful and accommodating. The food was great and the bure on the beach was fine, but don't expect 5 star!
