Has nice rooms and a bit of an american breakfast included. Levuka is old and shabby. The people are really friendly. That’s it.

My wife and I stayed in one of the ground-floor double rooms for a couple of nights. It was small but the bathroom was a good size and there was a narrow outside balcony. We didn’t use the a/c much, the fan being more than adequate in winter. My kids (11 and 15) had a room with two single beds in the annex next door; I think it’s called The Cottage. There was no TV but the room was larger, and slightly cheaper, than ours. But they chose it because it had more character, with high ceilings, wood floors, and a screened-in porch furnished with armchairs and old photos of Levuka.

There were a couple of rooms upstairs in the main building that were fitted out for three: a double bed and one single. A second single would be difficult to fit in but maybe it could be done. There was also a small dorm that was pretty much just a room with two rows of beds. The Lodge is fairly new and finished with tile floors, light colours, and a high ceiling in the reception / dining room. It faces the harbour across the road and catches the breeze (and smells from the Pafco canning factory, but then so does the whole town!)

The only negative was difficulty in contacting the Lodge to make an advance booking. Email wasn’t answered and a phone call produced a vague and very Fijian response of “turn up and we’ll sort it out.” But we did turn up, and they did have a record of my call, and we did “sort it out.”

The New Mavida Lodge doesn’t have the “olden days” atmosphere of the Royal but that doesn’t have to be a bad thing. Instead it feels cool and clean, and the staff are very friendly. There is Internet for a modest fee. Figure in the included breakfast and it was a good alternative to the Royal.

Not a lot of choices for accomodation in Levuka, but Mavida is certainly the best. Nice, very clean rooms with aircon and big bathroom. Two rooms on the 1st floor (#201 and 202) even have satelite TV (if someone prefers that to the great view from the small balcony.
You have free internet access in the lobby. They will organise trips for you (don't miss the Caqualai island) and cook you excellent meals for a very reasonable price (10 F$/person).
Definitely one of the best value for money we found in Fiji!

My friends & I checked into the New Mavida Lodge for two nights. We stayed in the dorm and had the entire room to ourselves. The dorm is quite big with two bathrooms.

The building itself is new and very clean with a great dining area. Pasepa and her staff made us feel very welcome especially with a cup of tea and sandwiches on arrival.

Breakfast is included and there was more than enough food - fruit, cereal and toast as well as tea or coffee.

A great place, walking distance to town and good value for money.

We stayed at the New Mavida Lodge for 2 nights in August and were really impressed. The hosts were so so friendly and approachable, the breakfast was freshly prepared as you sat down and the building itself was gorgeous. It replaced the Old Mavida Lodge which burnt down and is colonial in style with cool tiled floors and all modern comforts. We stayed in the dormitory to save a bit of money during our travels around Fiji and we had the 8 bed dorm to ourselves, along with male and female ensuite bathrooms. It was very cheap. We also peeked in some guestrooms while the door were open and they looked great especially the ones at the front with sea views. We spoke to some guests who checked into the traditional Royal Hotel on arrival in Levuka, were not impressed and moved to the Mavida the next day, apparently this happens a fair bit. Overall, friendly and a great location...highly recommended.
