“Nice and efficient guesthouse in the main street of Levouka”
Reviewed January 13, 2014

It is a small hotel in a little town. The 2 story building is on the main waterfront street of the charming historic town of Levuka. Everything is in walking distance anyway.
Yes it is clean , has breakfast included in the price and sometimes the Wi-Fi is working . (not during our stay) . Since you don't expect anything more than that , yes, it is recommended. Just call Linda and pay 80 Fijian dollars

Room Tip: No lift , only 2 floors

We arrived at the New Mavida Lodge following a long bus/ferry/bus ride from Suva. The views from the bus of the countryside north of Fiji were lovely and the only delays we experienced were for refuelling the ferry at the dock at Natovi Landing, but refreshments were available. The ferry, too, had a lounge and refreshments area. We arrived in Levuka after 6pm and were greeted by Pasepa. Just a hint - if you wish to eat your first evening meal at the New Mavida, make a prior arrangement. Pasepa suggested we could eat at the Whale's Tooth, but it was closed that evening for some reason. We ate subsequent evening meals at the New Mavida and enjoyed them very much. There are a few supermarkets in Levuka, so we had no trouble at all meeting our needs. Our room was very comfortable, with plenty of shelf space for our bits and pieces, a large bathroom with good shower, and a balcony - we were on the ground floor. The rooms were clean and well serviced. Our visit coincided with a rugby festival, which was a big attraction. It was the second year of what will be an annual festival. Teams came in from all over the island. The playing field was pretty muddy, so I don't know how they managed to distinguish who was playing for which side after the first quarter of an hour of play? We saw Pasepa and Linda, her offsider, head off in their Red Cross uniforms to be part of the festival - and she still had time to deal with guests and prepare evening meals! New Mavida also offered free internet access, using their computer. Breakfast is included in the very reasonable room charge - fruit, fruit juice, sausage and eggs, toast and jam, tea or coffee. We opted to fly back to Viti Levu - if you leave using the bus/ferry/bus option the departure is 4am, whereas departure from the hotel is 7.15am if you go by plane - the taxi was very reasonable. The plane returns to Nausori, so you will need to make your own arrangements from there. And Pasepa was there to make us breakfast before we left! We enjoyed the opportunity afforded by Ovalau to see Fijians in their own environment, not the tourist-influenced main centres - i.e. kids going to school, the community spirit, the charming villages that the bus stopped at on the way, the absorption with sport and the spiritual life.

Room Tip: We were on the ground floor facing the water, which was fine.

The New Mavida is a great accommodation option in Levuka, The interior is newly finished with lovely marble, gorgeous chandeliers, as well as beautifully furnished. The showers were piping hot, the beds tidy with fresh new sheets, and the meals were excellent. I stayed in the dorm which was quite comfortable, and Pacepe was a wonderful host. Very pleased with the tremedous value here. Thanks kindly, Tom

Before I start - the above rating is because there is not a lot to compare New Mavida with. We attended a beautiful local wedding at Leveuka Village and New Mavida was literally a 5 minute walk. This is a local Guest House with a variety of accommodation options ranging from FJD 30 to FJD 120 - Dorm style vs Rooms with views and facilities. Very friendly staff - incorporated breakfast was sustantial and they will cook pretty much what you want - chicken, beef etc. Basic local food but very tasty and made with love. There are no menu's ! Lunch or dinner is only FJD 12 per meal. Leveuka is currently under consideration for heritage listing as it should - a beautiful untouched piece of history and New Mavida is every bit a part of that history .... Would love to go back to Leveuka and New Mavida is the place to be ,,,,,,, Rooms are very clean and during our short stay we met some fantastic people - it is a very social environment given the communal set-up... There is also public internet at reception for you to update your friends and family :-) Take your grog - there is a communal fridge you can utilise for mixers etc .........

Room Tip: Do not be fooled - make sure you get the room you expected at the cost you expect to pay we were giv...

The hotel is very clean and spacious, breakfast included, hot showers, and they have free Internet! They have some different rooms to choose from, we stayed in a dorm, but the private rooms looked really nice as well! Well worth for the money. And only one minute walk from "downtown" Levuka. Staff is very nice and helpful. Probably the best place to stay in town!

Brilliant place to stay when visiting Levuka! The staff are so friendly and welcoming, nothing is too much trouble! The place is so clean and the food is just delicious for a very reasonable price... Can't thank the team enough for making my visit to the island a fab and chilled out time!

Room Tip: I stayed in the dorm and found it spacious and cool. Had a peak in one of the rooms and they looked...

Bula to Pasepa and the girls and vinaka vaka levu for a wonderful stay at your place. Your warm welcome and eating recommendations on arrival were greatly appreciated 'cos if you arrive by ferry and transfer you arrive by about 5.30pm and you are wacked. A shower, dinner and bed is all we could manage with a 4 yr old in tow. The 2 rooms were clean and spacious enough for a 3 day stay. The location from town and amenites only F$2 taxi fare away..don't expect a limo but it's all good. Because of the early departure 4.30am to catch ferry, we would recommend dining in the evening before @F$12 per adult. Pasepa made us a fantastic genuine Fiji chicken curry..homestyle..very delicious.
The only thing to add would be that in the maintenance programme your shower recesses either need a stronger cleaner for the mildew or stain in the plugholes or replacing the recess in room 6. Moce mada from Bernadette Lowry and family.

Room Tip: Ground floor is best - no difficult lugging of suitcase up stairs.
