We visited Matava eco resort july-aug 16. The resort is nestled away on the eastern side of Kadavu Island (local pronunciation is Kandavau). the resort is made up of a main meeting /meal area and various bures scattered over the hillside. The bures are a single room with a double bed and single bed with a mosquito net available above each bed if required, we were advised there is no malaria /dengue fever on the island.
The single bed which i used for the 10 day stay was I found comfortable. There is a separate bathroom with flush toilet and shower facility, each bure has a spacious deck for sunning , drying gear when required.
The rooms are powered with light and a fan, no a/c, didn't need it.
The beds are made each day by the staff and linen changed every few days, bathroom towels are supplied and air dried daily, changed as requested. The walk to the bures from the main area can be either gentle or steep depends on the bure assigned.
The management and staff at the resort are relatively new as there was a major change in staffing but in saying this the staff were very attentive and extremely friendly, they can't do enough for you.
The food was prepared fresh each day and is a set menu, rotated each week as this allows for management to order supplies based on a set menu.

Food varied from Fijian curries, Chinese meals, fish dishes as well as rices and salads and coleslaw.
There own hens supply the breakfast eggs( many styles of cooking to choose from here), toast , jams(jelly) peanut butter , honey and there is always fresh baked foods at breakfast. The Kitchen area is clean and tidy.
The fresh water supplied is double filtered for the guests.
There is a seating area in the main building is lit up by hurricane lamps during the evening.
We went for scuba diving trip.
The boat staff and diving staff are very good and are very helpful, the dive boats are set up for divers not a mix or diving and fishing. there is a specific fishing boat available. Dive schedules and locations are subject to the tides and wind , so they can vary depends on the conditions as all diving does. Dive staff consider this before selecting a dive site.
We all enjoyed the colourful soft corals on offer ,the whales - we had mother and calf touring the inner reef area and breaching whales and whale song on the outer reef. turtles , some white tip and a leopard shark, various morays and school fish. A black manta appeared for our last dive , manta was very photogenic. Overall I enjoyed my time at Matava. Thanks guys and gals from the resort and dive crews.More
