“Relaxing resort offering various activities”

this is a charming Marriott Resort and our second time staying there. It is wonderful to be able to
walk around the area and always be looking at water. There are various activites for the whole family to do. Our room's balcony looked out on the bay and we enjoyed hearing the waves coming into the shore as well as the sea gulls and watch the many pelicans flying in and catching their meal. The pools are wonderful and a child's dream, plus there is an adult pool
which makes it even nicer. The sandwich shop located by the pool offers a nice menu.
Speaking of which, one thing that needs improvement is the selection of eating facilities. We felt that the main restaurant was quite pricey for the type of food they offered both lunch and breakfast. It would have been nice to have a larger coffee shop where you could get a bagel, piece of toast, maybe a yogurt. When we stayed two years ago, we had dinner at the restaurant and were not impressed. So this time, we ate at The Wash House a mile south of the hotel and had a delicious meal and also took advantage of the charming town of Fair Hope. But there is no reason that the hotel can't come up with a deli, or something. Not certain how large families can pay $18 for a lunch buffet of soup, salad and cold cuts...more thought needs to go into
the overall menu and preparation (which is rather outdated) Other than that it truly is a delightful place to enjoy a little R&R with family and friends.

Room Tip: nice to have balcony with view of bay...a little more money, but worth it especially for a couple

The property is very nice. The room was very comfortable. Although there is a resort fee, this one was worth it for the family as there were several things to do that our family would not normally have done because of extra fees, but you do them when there is no additional charge. My family went cane pole fishing, and although we did not catch anything, it was fun to have the experience of feeling the tug of a fish biting. The pool area is great. The only downsides are the cost of food on property since there are no food choices in close proximity. Also, the Bay was not calm while we were there, so the water was not as pretty as the ocean, but the feel was still there.
We look forward to returning in the future.

I recently was at the Grand Hotel Marriott in Point Clear for a meeting and thoroughly enjoyed my stay. The resort grounds are lovely and especially beautiful in early Spring (it was nice to see things actually blooming after such a long winter at home). The resort has several different buildings. I can only speak for the Marina Building but hopefully all of the rooms are of a similar quality. My room was a good size, clean and well-maintained. I only had two complaints - the outlets on the base of the desk lamp didn't work and the sheets on the bed seemed too small. I don't toss and turn a lot, but each night the sheets came completely untucked and along with the comforter kept sliding around. Other than that - the room was great. I didn't have a water view, but even my parking lot view was nice since I had a huge old live oak right outside the window.

The meeting rooms in the conference center are very nice. It appears that the building is either new or has recently been renovated. Service was great too.

The pricing at the restaurants seemed a bit high. My suggestion is to drive the two miles or so into Fairhope. For a pretty small town, there is a wide variety of restaurants from which to choose and prices are much better.

The Grand Hotel also seems like a great place for family vacations. There is a nice pool, small beach, golf, spa, lots of daily activities. Just walking along the bay is a great way to relax. All in all, I give the Grand Hotel a thumbs up!

We heard that this hotel is more of a family resort and, since we were traveling with our two children, that sounded perfect. The hotel itself is fabulous, but the service left something to be desired. I asked upon check-in where there playground on the grounds was located. After a long pause, the young man who was checking me in told me, "there's no playground on the property!" Imagine my surprise when, just an hour later, we spotted a fairly nice playground adjacent to the hotel's pools (and clearly ON hotel propety). It's hard to believe that he was so ignorant about their amenities. The waitstaff was polite, but the food service was slow and left something to be desired. The property is quite lovely, but the staff needs to be better trained (and the property needs better/more knowledgeable staff)...

Our group of ladies went to the Birdcage two days in a row for late afternoon drinks outside by the firepits. The wine list was limited and pricey! Surely, you could offer some wines by the glass for less than $11-$12 a glass! Service on Thursday, March 13th was good, but not so on Friday, the 14th. On Friday, we had a waitress named Devon. She immediately informed us that she had been shopping at the Art Show all day with her mother & she was tired! (???) That should have been our first red flag. During the 2 hours we were there, her service was less than attentive & when we could get her attention, her attitude was rude, snarly & short! Both days, it was chilly (jacket weather) & when we asked (both days) about lighting the firepit (it was 5:30 pm), we were told that engineering only lights the firepits thirty minutes before sunset!!! It seems to me that this policy needs to be readdressed! If you have multiple groups of guests all requesting the lighting of the firepits during chilly weather, it seems like a simple/easy request that can be filled. My husband worked for Marriott for 8 years, so I am familiar with their customer service policy, so I was quite surprised. Maybe the lighting of the firepits should be based on temperature, guest requests & not time! Very disappointing! The best thing I can say about our two visits was the Fried Crab Claws....they were excellent! The atmosphere & location of this Marriott is awesome, but customer service is very much sub-par! For that reason, I can't say that we will ever return!

We checked into this hotel with reservations that were called in directly to hotel. When we got there we were told we had a "room" but it was in a hospitality suite which had only a sofa bed. This is NOT a hotel room. We had guaranteed either a king or double room with a request for a king. We were treated as though we had made the mistake and we almost went home--3 hours away. They wanted to move us to a Hampton Inn. They were surprised when we said no. They finally "found" a room with two doubles and the next night they had a king room for us. They told us they did us a great favor by upgrading our room to a bayview with a balony without an upcharge! REALLY?? Just to recap: No room for us; hospitality suite only, double room with an upgrade; no up charge, had to move rooms on Saturday; again, no upgrade....really did us a great favor. Had been there years ago and went last weekend for a "good health" celebration and they certainly did not add to our celebration. No more for me...what a disappointment how it was handled. Told friend who would have booked 4 rooms for a week later this summer...told them not to do it.

Nothing is more fun than to sit outside of the Bird Cage lounge at Bucky's and visit with friends and enjoy the panoramic view. The drink menu and food menu is very appetizing. Especially recommend the fried crab claws! Unfortunately the service can go from great to horrible. One day we had a cute waitress named Laeden. She was very attentive and provided great service. The next day unfortunately we had a different waitress. Devon. She was very rude and unattentive. The service was horrible! I hate to write a bad review but Devon is not cut out to be waiting on customers. We will go back, just hope we get Laeden.
