“Family resort with an awful bar”

Went with a few friends and was totally unimpressed. The beaches were super-clean and the pool was pristine, but there wasn't a moment when children weren't screaming all around us. The pool bar was totally over priced ($5 for a Bud Light). The Birdcage had a great atmosphere, but the service was horrendous. We had a relatively large group come in at 9:30 and after 20 minutes we still hadn't been served. When one waitress came over it was to say that another waitress would be with us shortly. After another 15 minutes the same waitress as before came and took our order and took another 15 minutes to actually bring the drinks over. Needless to say we were quite unhappy. Dining options are limited on the resort grounds, but Fairhope is close by, which was ok. The rooms were comfortable and clean and the beds were great. If you've got a family, this place is great, otherwise go somewhere else.

Green Features: All around the resort are plenty of recycling bins for glass, aluminum and plastic.

We spent two nights at the Grand Hotel and they were fabulous. We had a room in the Spa Building with a balcony and a view of the bay. This was an upgrade, but well worth it. The room was spacious and excellent. I played golf while here and there was a shuttle provided to the course. My wife read and enjoyed the grounds. This certainly a beautiful place just to walk around. We also had a wonderful meal in the restaurant. The staff was awesome, the hotel clearly lives up to its billing as "The Grand Hotel". We highly recommend it if you are looking for a luxury hotel in the part of the U.S.A.

Room Tip: I would suggest getting a room with a view of the water.

We stopped by the Grand Hotel because we had time to kill and I had visited before and loved the atmosphere. We ordered a dip sampler and some drinks. The dip sampler consisted of a shot glass size of three different dips. One was onion dip (Straight from a Lipton's packet), spinach artichoke dip (tasted nothing like spinach or artichoke) and a decent hummus. I was expecting a wonderful presentation with one of a kind dips. I was very disappointed.

I have grown up coming to the Grand for over 20 years and have seen the changes and updates over the years. While bringing a few guests down for their first visit we were no up to the standard of previous visits. Spa folks were great and were very friendly and helpful. We had several meals throughout our stay on the property and this was an area that was the biggest frustration. We had severs that were relatively new I assume but drinks and food were incorrect, as well as being told that Pinot Noir is a white wine not a red wine. I have had inexperienced severs in the past but several times the staff was argumentative and somewhat rude.

The other complaint was that 2 of the folks in our room with reservations long in advance for King beds only to have 2 double beds. The new room keys which had been recently installed did not work 4 different times among our group. Staff was there within 20 min to bring new keys but still was a huge headache. Another member of our party had to change rooms b/c their room was not clean upon check-in.

Overall we may come back but I was disappointed in our stay. It has always been a relaxing place with friendly staff which makes for a great time.

This was our first visit to The Grand, but will most certainly not be our last. The Grand lives up to it's name not just for the grandeur of the property, but because of the way the staff treat the guests.
Some people may think it is a bit out dated but we feel that the history of the buildings add to the charm of the property and adds to the relaxation factor as one reflects on the past eras when life was not so frantic and electronically based.
We had a bay front room first floor room which we absolutely loved! We enjoyed our coffee while sitting in in the rocking chairs watching the pelicans. We lunched in those same rockers after our long bike ride. Make sure to utilize the bikes provided by the hotel and explore the area,especially the boardwalk on the bay.

We dined in the restaurants at the hotel and were pleased with the food and service.
Absolutely cannot wait to go back!

Room Tip: All the rooms are quite large. Bay view was our favorite.

I took my family down there recently to celebrate my mother's nintieth birthday. It was a wonderful experience. We had such a good time. The guest rooms were nice and roomy. The view was fantastic. She had the time of her life! They treated her like royalty. I highly recommend it!!

Room Tip: Rooms in the Spa building are the best, especially one with a Bayside view.

We had our vacation time here cut short due to flight delays but we know we will be back. Beautiful main lodge area and the dining was exceptional. The staff were super nice and we felt so welcome. Next time we hope to enjoy this resort to the full extent!
