Today was our fourth visit to Shipps Harbor Grill. We've always liked the food (grouper Ponchartrain, grouper tacos and their killer hush puppies are our favorites) and we very much enjoy the setting overlooking a marina and the intercoastal waterway.
However, the service has ranged from excellent (once), average (twice) and dismal (today). When things go wrong here they apparently go very wrong. The hostess was on a non-stop apology tour the whole time we were there. Our drink orders arrived incorrectly. We didn't register a complaint but our food (none too hot) showed up after a couple at an adjoining table who arrived after us had already eaten and were settling up their bill. The people behind us were comped a future meal after waiting 90 minutes for 12 oysters. Everyone was very apologetic and courteous but still, the entire afternoon was obviously a disaster back in the kitchen.
The prices here are hefty enough to expect more consistency in service.
