“High Expectations....Satisfied!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 23, 2012

We really enjoyed our week here. Family with 8 adults and 3 kids (4,2,2 months) stayed Memorial Week 2012.

The Holdiay weekend (our arrival) was REALLY CROWDED. Had it been this crowded the entire week, I would have been upset. No available chairs at the pool due to people laying towels on chairs starting at 6 am to reserve their spot for the day. Having a 2 month old it was important we had chairs and an umbrella. The beach was also really crowded. This was no longer an issue starting Monday when all the extra people (likely owners just there for the long weekend) went home. Called Maintainence as we had a smoke alarm beeping....they aren't coming so don't waste your time calling. Replaced ourselves and had no other issues.

Lazy River and Pools were just awesome. Such a variety of pool styles that catered to kids old enough to play in the water but not quite ready to swim on their own (but plenty of pool space for the kids that could swim).

We had a wrap around view condo with 4 bedrooms. A view of the lazy river and bay. I did miss the sounds of the ocean (as this is not directly on the beach and you will see a pretty busy road between you and the beach), but we really enjoyed our view. Bit different than our usual ocean front, but very enjoyable. Condo was awesome (website will show you how nice these are...granite, flat screens, trendy furniture). The openess of the living/kitchen/dining area that is surrounded by large glass windows made this so comfortable for us all to spend time together.

Loved the 'on-site' restaurant Cobalt. The wait over Memorial weekend was 2-4 hours. This was not the case the rest of the week. We easily got a table for all 10 of us the following Friday night. Happy Hour was great, but with $6 Mojitos who needs Happy Hour?

Overall, not let down at all. Expected a lot and it delivered.

As always, a wonderful experience. The condo was great (BPH02), the grounds and facilities are still in good shape, and the staff friendly and helpful. If I had the $$ I'd live here.

Only downside, hence the 4 rating, is their decision to only use the eastern end of the boat dock. I brought my boat (18.5') with us from VA, and based on information the front desk had provided, expected to be able to dock my boat below our condo in Building B. Instead, "for security reasons" I was directed to dock at Building D. All the other slip areas we roped off to prevent access. This forced us to hike quite a distance, lugging all the gear I did not want to leave aboard, every time we went out. :(

Room Tip: Rooms in Building B, on the west side will have the opportunity to enjoy late night music from the n...

I have stayed here before and loved our past experiences however this stay was not great. Our unit had no curtains in the living room and the master bedroom. This makes for a very hot day and early rising. I was told this unit is owned by the Caribe and they would not be fixing it. The sheets felt very rough and cheap. We had no broom or mop to help keep up the condo. These are small things overall but kept us from enjoying the only week we have off. The pools were still very nice. I will not be recommending The Caribe to friends.

We don't even have kids but we love the Caribe and when we go with our relatives w/ kids, the kids love it! My husband and I prefer to not go in the summer for that reason but the pools and grounds are awesome. And having Cobalt so close is a plus too.

Traveled with girlfriends for 3rd annual trip to the beach. Some condos have a beach view while others have a Bay view. Just love waking up and enjoying a cup of coffe watching the boats going out. The resort is very clean and the staff is awesome. The only draw back to the resort is your not directly on the beach. You are walking distance or a trolley ride away. We have visited the restaurant "The Colbalt" next to the resort and the "Bush Wackers"..... I have only had the a couple of times and have to say they are the BEST!!!!! I think they make them with ice cream. The Colbalt provides entertainment on weekend

I would definitely recommend both places to anyone.

We loved Caribe! We stayed here Memorial Day weekend 2012 - PH 3 in unit D (PHD03, I think). Our group was made up of 3 married couples.

Beach

As many other reviewers say, do not stay here if you MUST be beach front, because it isn't, but we still enjoyed ourselves. You can either walk to the beach or take the shuttle (in the heat, I wouldn't walk, it'd be quite the trek!). Many reviews commented on the fact that you walk a long way from the shuttle drop off to the actual beach. I wrote this off before our visit, but it really is a long way (and we found out our last day we were taking the longest peer to get to the beach - far left). It didn't bother me that much, but it was kind of tiring, and I wouldn't want to make that trek with children (and their beach stuff) in tow.

They take you to the public beach, which is pretty nice, but not as well kept up as the beach in front of beach-front resorts (from my experience). Our only complaint was that there was a lot of washed up seaweed on the beach.

We only did the beach a couple of mornings because we didn't want to trek back out after lunch.

The Pools

We loved the pools! There are 2 main outdoor pool areas. We found that the one with the slides was cooler than the other pool because it's in the shade for part of the day.

The lazy river was one of the main reasons we chose this resort, but I was really disappointed. It's not on the ground level, so it is only 18" deep, which causes the water to get pretty warm during the day (bath water-ish temperature - not what I want to swim in). We floated it once at night, and the temperature was fine but there were big groups of roaches around it so we didn't do that again.

The slides and pools were great, though.

The Unit

Our unit was AWESOME. We had 3 bedrooms (1 king, 2 queen beds), 3 bath. There was so much room. A big kitchen, big dining room, big living room, big porch, we even had a wet bar with a wine cooler.

The kitchen was very fully stocked! We even had an immersion blender. I don't know if this represents every unit, but it was very well stocked. I do recommend bringing extra garbage bags, dish soap, dishwasher detergent & dish towels. The unit did have a washer and dryer, but you need to bring your own detergent.

One of the couples with us complained that their bed was uncomfortable, but they have a temperpedic at home, so they may just be used to really comfortable beds. Our bed slept great.

They didn't change out our towels during our stay, so we washed them one night - you may want to plan ahead for this.

The AC in our unit was frozen over when we got there, but they fixed it as quickly as they could. Our ice maker was also out. They said they were going to come replace it, but never did. It wasn't a problem because the freezer had an ice maker, but I was a little annoyed they never brought the new one.

Some reviews mentioned dolphins in the bay, but we never saw any :( We did enjoy looking out over the water and watching the boats, though.

Service

Service here was AWESOME. Check in was quick and easy, and everyone we encountered, from the shuttle driver to the repair people, was so nice and accommodating. A+ Service makes a difference!!

Crowds

We were here for Memorial Day, but the crowds weren't as bad as it could have been. We never had to wait too long for the elevator or anything, but the increase in people did become apparent in the pool (a little dirty) & areas near the pool (very wet). We never had any noise problems or anything, though.

We did have trouble getting chairs at the pool. People would come down and put their towel on a chair then go back up to their room, so their spot would be "reserved." That was annoying, but we were able to get 6 chairs together by waiting for people to leave and adding chairs to our area.

Summary

Overall, I would stay here again, but next time I think we will stay beach front. We have a pool in our neighborhood at home, so the beach is more special to us. We chose Caribe for its amenities, but next time I think we'll try one that has a nice pool, but is beach front.

I do think this is a good place for families with kids, though, because of the amenities (indoor & outdoor pools, slides, etc - lots to entertain).

Room Tip: Choose a bay side room so you'll have a view of the water (the "beach side" overlooks...

We stayed at Caribe Memorial Day Weekend 2012 with two children, 9 and 7. The condo was beautiful, high end kitchen, large rooms, great patio, huge flat screen TVs. The pools were great, the lazy river was beautiful, and the slides kept the kids entertained for hours! There aren't any lifeguards, but that seemed to work to the kids' avantage; as they loved going down the slides in chains and on floats. The beach is a bit of a hike to walk, but very do-able. There is a shuttle that picks you up right at the condo entrance. Lots of ways to entertain the family here at the resort!
