For a real change-of-pace try Zen in Orange Beach (in the shopping center with Publix!), The food is fabulous! We went in mid-afternoon. We shared the spring rolls and I had salmon while my wife had the peanut chicken from the lunch menu. All the dishes were well prepared with beautiful presentation. My salmon came with two large pieces of salmon--twice as much as I expected for the price. It was cooked to perfection with a delicious glaze. Asparagus and new potatoes were good as well. We each brought home almost half of our food.

If you want something different and elegant on the Alabama Gulf Coast, Zen is the place.

1st trip--recommended by a guest at our lodge--It was wonderful!! Great food, great service, great prices. The storefront is a little misleading because when you enter, it looks large and lovely.

Had tempura fried lobster tails which were heaven. Needed upscale dining at beach. Excellent food and service which came highly recommended and for good reason. We will definitely go back on next trip and subsequent trips!

The menu and decor made us feel like we were back in California. The food is prepared expertly and serve with flair. The staff are friendly and service is to a high standard. The only minor drawback is the architecture, which does no favors to the ambiance. Zen is located in a shopping center and while the interior makes a good effort at breaking up the cavernous space, it is still obvious that this was built as a retail box. This is especially obvious when cars are parking in front and their headlights shine in.

The cuisine was what I call modern Asian. The food and wine pairings we had were extraordinary. The service was almost magical. Water glasses were never empty, the wait staff was extremely attentive, but never obtrusive .
