“Great value & comfort”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 25, 2013

My wife and I had a great 1 night stay at this hotel. My review agrees with others I have read here. Overall the hotel is an excellent value. The location is right off McFarland Blvd, so it is easy to get to for east bound traffic; you will have to loop around if you are coming from the west. The room was very quiet, clean, and well maintained. We found the location close to everything we needed (restaurants and shopping); the downtown Northport area is definately worth a visit. Overall we had a great experience. Very friendly staff.

Room Tip: The king room we stayed in has a nice seating area up front

We came to the Best Western after having a horrible experience with the nasty Econolodge across the highway. It is a little difficult to get to, but it's worth it. The price is affordable and the rooms are very nice! They have coffee pots, flat screens, a mini fridge, WiFi, and a microwave. The rooms seem to be recently updated, the furnishings are nice and the sheets are clean and fresh. The staff was polite and accommodating. They have breakfast in the mornings and it is more than just a few things. They have biscuits, gravy, cheese omelettes, juice, milk, coffee, bagels, pastries, muffins, waffles, toast, cereal, instant grits, and oatmeal. If you need somewhere to stay, this is definitely the choice I would make!

This review could have been excellent or poor based on the range of the experience, so it is getting an average. It was graduation weekend at University of Alabama and the hotels close to campus were either sold out or way over our budget, so I opted for the BW in Northport, a 3.5 mile, 10 minute ride to the commencement hall. The front desk clerk was friendly and check-in was smooth. He switched us from a queen to a king with no extra charge. When we opened the door to the room, we were amazed at how clean and updated the room was, especially at the price. The room was a good size and had a sitting area. It also had a fridge and microwave but they were located under and to the right side of the clothes rack and took up half the hanging space. When we returned late that night from our activities and prepared for bed, there was a live roach crawling on pillow case. We also found a long red hair on the sheets under the pillow. The sheets appeared clean and there was no other sign that they were not fresh. We were too tired to start a whole production with room changes or even extermination, so we sucked it up figuring we would complain in the morning after a long shower.
Even though the rooms are back off the road, McFarland has a lot of traffic and we could hear it throughout the night. When we went to lobby at 6:45am for the complimentary buffet that started at 6:00am, I was surprised that the omelets had sugar sprinkled on them. Turned out it was frost because they were still frozen! We could have microwaved them, but said forget it and it was off to a local drive through for breakfast. Upon check out the front desk person scolded me for not reporting the incident when it happened and defended the cleanliness of the facility. She told me that she could give me more points for my stay but could not discount the room (I had not asked for either). Without these negative experiences, I would have given 4 stars, possibly 5, but considering the occasion for which I was here and the negative spin that was placed on such a momentous occassion, this place gets a generous 3.

Room Tip: Choose one in the middle 112 to 118.

Stayed here for the Alabama/Texas A&M game November 9-11. VERY convenient, the rooms are clean, the beds are extremely comfortable. Very friendly service as well. Really recommend. We plan to stay here again next time we come back to Tuscaloosa!

Thank you for your kind words about our property! As a small hotel it is sometimes hard to compete with the larger hotels in the area, but we do take pride in our dedication to cleanliness and commitment to customer service. We are so glad to hear you enjoyed your stay, and we hope you will stop by again soon!

The room itself was fine. Clean and had a fridge/microwave unit and a small coffee maker, and plenty of towels supplied. The pillows however were murderous on my neck. Short overly stuffed things, more like throw pillows for decoration. BRING YOUR OWN! Or toss theirs into Aa trash bag and drive over then a few times. The complimentary breakfast included make your own waffles, fruit, cereal bagels and cereal as well as coffee and juices. Have to say it was the worst OJ I've ever tasted. But otherwise ample offerings.
I did make reservations well in advance because I was attending a local concert. Feel a little scammed by the fact that they scheduled my room on the night I was doing the booking instead of the night of the show. So, the night of the show I had to book and pay for another room. The evening manager wasn't willing to look up the fact I never checked in the month prior.

Room Tip: There is a Waffle House next door if that matters to anyone.

Hotel not bad. Rooms double or more for Gameday Weekends with 2-night minimum. Location okay but only access via southbound US 82, McFarland.

However... Screw up in making reservation. Management staff and leadership are the pits. Unhelpful. Uncaring. Inflexible. Don't care and thus inappropriately Double charged. Best Western Customer Care unable to do anything as again local management with final determination.

Will never patronize Best Western anywhere as long as they refuse to take care of their customers. Apparently the quick buck is more important customer loyalty. Too many other choices out there that are customer oriented like Hampton or Holiday Inn or Fairfield or Marriott Corp or Country Inn.

We are sorry that you were unsatisfied with you customer service. We normally receive great reviews on our staff. However, unfortunately due to high demand during football season we are forced to adhere to a 7-day cancellation policy for all rooms booked. All of our September, October, and November football weekends were completely booked and sold-out in May of 2012. Since you made two reservations for the same weekend, and did not attempt to cancel until it was too late this was out of our hands. Our corporate office, and third-party sites who book reservations for us notify all customers of cancellation policies. If they are unable to cancel a room, it is because it did not fall within these guidelines. All hotel chains, including those you listed above, adhere to cancellation policies, especially in Tuscaloosa on game-day weekends. We do care greatly for all of our customers and guests, and we have cancelled rooms many times due to documented emergencies. However, if it is not an emergency and two rooms are booked by a customer we must honor those reservations if they are not cancelled within the allowable period. Thank you for staying with us here at the Best Western Catalina Inn. This Football season has been quite successful for the University of Alabama and we hope you will be cheering for our Crimson Tide in their upcoming Championship bid.
