Owner description: This tribute to the "Mother of the Civil Rights Movement" honors Rosa Parks, the African-American woman who, in 1955, sparked the civil rights movement by refusing to give her bus seat to a white man. The museum helps visitors relive this tumultuous era with a video, artifacts, historical documents, a lifesize statue of Rosa Parks and a replica of the bus in which she sat that day.

“Informative and engaging”
Reviewed April 16, 2013

Visited from the UK. This was the best introduction to the Montgomery Bus Boycotts and I particularly enjoyed that the presentation seeks to put the incident in context by outlining the contributions from all who were part of this story not just focusing on Rosa Parks. The museum was modern in feel and made good use of video, sound and models to tell the story. One very young child on the tour got bored quickly as there is a lot of information. This is exactly what we wanted though, and I would recommend stopping here first on any civil rights trail. We had a guided tour at 3 that lasted about an hour. The other galleries were no particularly interesting to us. The tour guide was excellent and passionate about the subject.

“Wonderful field trip for classrooms.”

On hand history as it really was. Students are amazed with the historical photos, sound, and to experience history rather than to read it in a book.

“Excellent museum.”
Reviewed April 6, 2013

Visited on 04/03/2013 in the afternoon. Excellent gift shop. The docent (tour guide) was extremely rude. She insulted the youth in our group and questioned what is the world the schools are teaching these days. She expressed her (unsolicited)dissatisfaction with the MLK depicition in the facility.

My family and I stayed one night in Montgomery on our spring break trip to Gulf Shores. I highly recommend a visit to this museum. It brings to life the struggles of the Civil Rights Movement. Our guide was HIGHLY KNOWLEGEABLE. It is definitely worth the stop.

The story of Rosa Parks is truly amazing. I enjoyed the museum very much and thought the computer genersted reenactment really brought history to life. I learned so much about the civil rights era I never knew. This will be something I never forget.
