“Too Cool for School”
Reviewed January 23, 2012

I went to the festival when I was a senior in high school (10 years ago) and saw the play "Smokey Joe's Cafe" and loved it then, when I was a chronically bored teenager who was too cool for educational, cultural things, so this means it must be great! I've heard great things about it from reliable sources since then, but haven't been able to make it back yet.

“Diamond in the Rough”
Reviewed December 9, 2011

Who would guess that waaaay down south, you'd find a professional Shakespearean company with tons more to offer than just the bard's work. Variety is certainly abundant throughout the year at the ASF with musicals, one-man shows, and, of course, Shakespeare running most every night except for holidays. My only complaint about the venue is that, as a tall man, the seats are very cramped. Some plays can go one for close to 3 hours and even with an intermission, it's an uncomfortable place to visit. Still, the professionalism of the actors is beyond reproach and you'll see a lot of people here this year and then win Tony or an Emmy the following year.

“A wonderful theatre experience”
Reviewed November 27, 2011

The ASF hasngone to great pains to bring a variety of theatre experiences to Montgomery, catering to a wide audience. The acting company is professional, many of whom have been in national network television shows. feature films, broadway and regional theatre. The actors consistently compliment the production standards at ASF. From set design, to costumes. to lighting and music, the various components are always first class.

Tjere are two theatres: the intimate Octagon and the large Festival theatre. The shows are produced specifically for the theatre in which it is presented. After Saturday and Sunday matinees, the audience is treated to a short question and answer period by the cast which is always entertaining and informative. Tours are available of the behind the scenes of the theatre, and those tours are well worth catching if you are interested in how a production evolves, with set building, costume design and wig making, amomg others. Enjoy!

“A Bit of Culture for AL”
Reviewed November 14, 2011

It truly is a gem in Montgomery. Even if you're not planning to see a play, it's definitely nice to go to the grounds and bring a picnic or take pictures. It's very beautiful and well maintained.
