This is literally a moving memorial situated in Washington Avenue. Water flows gently over a table inscribed with the names of those who died during the modern Civil Rights Movement. The wall is inscribed with an excerpt from Book of Amos quoted in a historic speech by Martin Luther King Jr. it reads...'until justice rolls down like waters and righteousness like a mighty stream'. Touching and worth a visit.

The fountain in front of the memorial is absolutely beautiful--designed by the same lady that designed the Vietnam's memorial in DC. The exhibits inside te museum are also very good and professional.

This memorial is so well done. The monument outside is a simple circular structure with water pouring over the names of those who have given their lives for the cause of civil rights. Once you go inside there's a video and information about each of the individuals who were killed during the '60s fight for civil rights. There's also a portion at the end where you can add your name to the list of those who want to stand up for what's right. It's a digital wall and it's a beautiful way to end your time there.

I went to Montgomery as part of a road trip through the Deep South mainly to learn about civil rights history. I would recommend this museum to anybody and plan to take my own kids there someday. It was a very emotional experience for me since the museum teaches you about people who died in the struggle for equality (both blacks and whites). However, it is not done in a cheesy manner--very matter-of-fact. The staff is extremely polite and respectful of the space. One thing I thought was memorable was a molten clock they display in the foyer of the museum demonstrating the exact time that the museum was bombed by those who did not approve of its message of tolerance. It made me appreciate the courage of those who kept the center open despite hostility by some. Anyway, I would definitely recommend any visitor to Montgomery to see this site--its message is very relevant even today (they show some modern-day examples of violence against those who are different, like those of Middle Eastern ancestry after 9/11).
