Owner description: The names of 40 people killed in the battle for civil rights between 1954, when the U.S. Supreme Court outlawed segregation, and 1968, the year of the assassination of Martin Luther King, are embedded forever in this round, flat, granite sculpture. Water flows gently over the surface of the inspiring memorial, designed by Maya Lin, who also created the Vietnam Veterans Memorial.

the whole town shuts down on Sundays including the gas station, cafes and all. please do not waste your time in any part of this town. i couldnt find a bathroom and was only able to see the fountain in front of the memorial.

This place is great. It has security and they have a small exhibit letting visitors know why the security is needed.

I loved reading the walls and the stories of the people who lost their lives during the Civil Rights movement were very touching.

I highly recommend visiting this place and adding your name to the wall.

I don't know if there is a difference between this attraction and the one that says Civil Rights Memorial Center. The fountain in the picture is outside of the center. It costs to go inside the center, but of course the fountain is free in front of the building. Both are worth the visit.

Wow, this is another awesome exhibit to see. This is truly, educational for all. Certainly, it’s another place where you can see a Historical plateau at its best. This will be great for those attending school and would make for an excellent school project. They could pick one of the events, research and write a detailed report about its history. There is much to be gained by visiting this exhibit, and we found it very enlightening. The waterfall just makes it so serene. I recommend it a place to see for everyone in America! Unfortunately, the day we visited the center was not opened for viewing - what a lost for us!

However, our little overnight trip really paid off. Personally, I wasn't aware of this exhibit but learned a lot on that day!

It doesn't take long to visit but it is time well spent. I recommend this memorial to all.
