“Who Knew?”
Reviewed January 17, 2012

I went with a ladies group on the tour of the capital and enjoyed every second. I've lived in Alabama all my life and still learned alot. Our tour guide was very nice and answered all of our questions. It was also very clean. They also accomadate those who require mobility assistance but there is still alot of walking.

“Best state flag display ever.”
Reviewed January 17, 2012

We spent an hour walking around the capitol building after parking across the street on a Saturday morning. Nice easy stroll taking pictures of the statues and reading the bronze plaques. The display of all US state flags in a semicircle was very impressive, both at a distance and up close. They are in alphabetical order which, of course, places Alabama first. At the base of each flagpole is each states stone with its name carved in it. We went inside and visited one of the largest capitol gift shops I seen. I'm sure we would have enjoyed a guided tour if we would have visited during the week. The guards inside the east entrance were very hospitable and the restrooms were spotless.

“Nice Capitol”
Reviewed January 14, 2012

The capitol and the grounds are fairly nice. The square is primarily occupied by other government buildings and/or offices. Not much in terms of restaurants or anything though. The inside of the capitol is very nice. Nothing extravagant but still pleasant to look at. The main feature to check, I think, is the star on the Dexter Ave. entrance. This is marking where Jefferson Davis was inaugurated as the first President of the Confederacy. It's free to walk around and you don't have to take a guided tour if you don't want to.
