Owner description: A beautiful 1860s Italianate townhouse located in the De Tonti Square Historical District in the heart of downtown Mobile, Alabama. This 10,000 square foot dream home, filled with a large family, was built by Captain Charles Richards and his wife Carolyn. Surrounded by formal gardens and old brick courtyard, the House Museum is furnished with period antiques, original chandeliers, interior and exterior architectural appointments including carved Carrera Marble fireplaces with cathedral arches, cantilever staircase, and the four seasons lace ironwork lining the front gallery and sidewalk. Operated and furnished by the Mobile chapters of the Daughters of the American Revolution since 1973, they invite you to join them for a tour of this beautiful home and take complimentary tea and cookies afterward.

This old home in a sleepy area of downtown Mobile is really nice. The house has been very well preserved with many interesting aspects. Only the piano is original furniture. But, they have collected many, many great pieces of furniture from the same time period. The tours are conducted by the Daughters of the American Revolution who also maintain the building. Our guide was friendly and knowledgable. The tea and cookies at the end was a really great finishing touch. If you are looking to spend about 1 hour to see a great old Mobile house and furniture - I would highly recommend.

Enjoyed a factual trip through time and preservation with a helping of ghostly wonder at the Richards DAR House Museum. The guides were well versed, friendly and at the end treated all to tea and cookies. The architecture and ironwork is worth the trip.
Bravo, ladies of the DAR!
