5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 26, 2012 via mobile

I stopped by passing through from Marathon, FL traveling across the coast and I must say, DEFINITELY WORTH THE STOP. Best bbq I've eaten in my life I plan on stopping again on the way back!!

“A Must for BBQ Lovers”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 23, 2012

If you love BBQ and are coming through Mobile, this is the one to try. Brick Pit makes a bbq like none other. As you approach the rsstaurant on Old Shell Road, the scent of the bbq pit wafts down the street from a little smoker that sits out front. Out back, you park under a gigantic old oak tree and you get the full effect of the big smoker. By the time you get inside you can hardly wait for your meat!

This place takes unpretentious to its ultimate. It is literally a shack, a little old house that couldn't be much more than 1000 sq ft converted into a restaurant that harks back to the early post-wwII era. Small tables are covered in laminated old ads.

Ordering is at the window. It doesn't take long, as the menu is short and to the point. Do you want cow, pig, or chicken? For a side, the potato salad is really yummy.

Once you get your plate, try to eat it slowly....just try.

If you eat in, bring some beer. I like an ale with mine. You could go mass-produced eith Shock Top or more craft with something by Unibroue.

Above all, approach the Brick Pit on its own terms. It as all about the bbq, so don't come expecting some fancy-schmancy establishment with tuxedoed waiters ;)

“Big expectations...small portions”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 12, 2012 via mobile

Came hungry expecting to leave full. Even when you order it says large plate. I was very disappointed with the amount of food you get. I've had larger lunch portions at other restaurants. I guess i expected too much after seeing that man vs food had been there.

“Just Okay”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 31, 2012

I was actually kind of disappointed with this place.. The food was just okay, service was poor...seen a few ppl leaving tips, but didn't see the point...you have to walk up to the window and order..they bring all the plates out at once...and drinks as well...don't really ask if you need anything else...they don't come to the table at all afterward to see if you need anything else like any other sit down restaurant. Their building could use some serious TLC..the portions are not generous as it states on their own menu, especially for $10...I recieved at least twice as much from Down South BBQ on the corner of CR-10 and AL-59 in Foley for $8 and the food is wayyyyyyy better!....the only reason we stopped into this restaurant was because we saw it on Man Vs. Food...but looks can be decieving.

“Right Up My Alley!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 24, 2012

Great food, homey atmosphere, decent prices- to die for ribs. They even have good iced tea. The only thing missing is me not being there right now chomping down on some of those scrumptious ribs.
