“It's a Training Restaurant, Don't Forget!”
Reviewed July 9, 2013

There is a training restaurant in Geneva, Switzerland, called Les Vieux Bois that the folks at Kitchen on George should take a field trip to visit. As other writers have said, Kitchen is a really good restaurant for Mobile, but those last two words are important. (I would've rated it "good," but there's no rating between "average" and "very good.") The food was tasty and inventive (grouper with fennel slaw, for example) and it was great to see locally sourced ingredients (like the Alabama goat cheese). The wine list had just enough variety to satisfy most needs. The service, however, was pretty sloppy. Maybe the training is only for the chefs; I don't know. Our waiter had not attended Wine Pouring 101, nor The Basics of Setting a Plate onto a Table. In Geneva, he'd have been made to re-serve everything. I'll probably go back for the food -- there are small plates as well as large plates, so lots to try -- but I'll be hoping that the service improves.

“Amazing food”
Reviewed June 18, 2013

The food at Kitchen on George was spectacular. The menu featured traditional food, but with a chef's flair. Apparently, the restaurant is a training facility for students in chef school.

We received bread while we waited for our food. The entrees were great and the chocolate martini was to die for. Our waitress was great, too. Don't miss this restaurant.

“One of the best in Mobile”
Reviewed June 17, 2013

Sorry>>> This is not NY, SF or New Orleans level cuisine but for Mobile this was darn fantastic tasting food. The restaurant is in a residential area and cabs are hard to come by but if you make it here you will be met by a lovely styled restaurant painted white and very "southern" feeling. The staff is extremely friendly and the food is well prepared. The wine list is medium priced and chosen. Nothing too daring. if I am in Mobile I would definitely be back.

“Best in Mobile”
Reviewed May 19, 2013

This is NOT the typical Mobile restaurant. Very few fried foods -- just creative offerings well prepared and served in a comfortable setting. We liked this play so much that we ate there twice in 4 days. While the menu is limited, you can easily put together a great meal. We tried and loved the fried oysters, duck breast, papaya salad, crab cakes, goat cheese salad, and salmon. The bread dipping oil has a great flavor. The sea salt in it keeps you wanting more and more and more bread! The drinks and wine list were excellent. Try the Bellini martini and the Ginger martini. Both were excellent. PS They do not take reservations for small groups, so plan accordingly. Weekdays seem to not be problematic, but go early or plan for a wait on the weekend.

“Great place great atmosphere great staff”
Reviewed May 12, 2013

We arrived at 8:30 on Mother's Day and they were gracious enough to still seat us. Even though it had been a hectic day they were still friendly and more then willing for us to stay and take as long as w needed. The food was tremendous. I got the grilled beef tenderloin and it was so tender I could cut it with my fork. If you come to Mobile this is a must. A truely dinning experience
