We spent 3 nights in Melaka and truly enjoyed our stay in this lovely place.

Our room was spacious and clean with a big comfortable bed. It also had air-con and a clean shared bathroom.

There are several shared spaces such as the rooftop terrace or a big living room very well decorated with a big tv, a computer and a library where you can borrow all kinds of books, guides and magazines.

There is a free wi-fi access everywhere in the guesthouse.

And Zoul, the host was very nice and helpful as soon as we asked him for some advice !

The only thing that could be a negative point is that the bar located next to the guesthouse is noisy, but it didn't really bother us.

If you travel to Melaka, prefer getting there on Thursdays and Fridays for the Chinatown night Market !! (same street as the guesthouse)

Yes people, believe everything people have already written here...room and the facilities are o-kay..host? not!!! no decorum, enough said. Tho there was one young boy working there, I felt like rescuing him before being turned into the exact replica of the host (he's already wearing same outfit)

Stay here if you can ignore the host - just be rude to him back.

I stayed in Number Twenty Guesthouse Twice.
First time - Dec 2010.
Second time - Feb 2011.

I was rather prepared to be greeted by sarcastic host and any other bad reviews that i had read. Reason why i still choose this hotel because to me i think its convenient and its always good to try it out myself in order to convince myself that its really not worth a stay.

Well, i was wrong ...

(1) Host was very friendly despite we were very late during the first trip check in. (Not very good in english verbally but still manage to talk to us, welcome us with warm smile in the hot day)
(2) Room are spacious, clean and just like what was shown in the pictures.
(3) Bedsheets are not stained or sandwiches with hairs etc (Which i read from other website reviews)
(4) Not to mention, location is awesome. Its enjoyable looking at the busy night market from top view instead of normal human view. (Just another personal preference.)
(5) Open rooftop is a hidden gem at night where u can enjoy live band contribution from the restaurant below.
(6) If you need to keep food in fridge etc, just keep the host notify. He will help you with it and collect from him when needed.
(7) Host is not always around in the guesthouse but contactable via mobile.
(8) Toilet / bath room is well kept too.
(9) Free Wifi

For the price that i am paying, i think this guesthouse deserved to be recommended.

For fussy travellers that prefer peaceful quiet nights etc, not to mention in this guesthouse, any hotel / guesthouse along jonker street will not be suitable for you :)

That's right everything has been said. To sum up, house is beautiful, bathrooms are shared, host is quiet but if you start the conversation you will have no prob, restaurant is loud so no sleep before midnight, awesome location... Oh great living room.. Very quiet from the other guests tho. Overall I was very happy

Before I stayed in this guesthouse, I've heard many negative reviews about it's host. However it is certainly untrue it's host is rude. The only thing which makes him quiet is because of his inability to speak English very well. When I arrived at the guesthouse, I was impressed by it's location, cleanliness and the way it makes me feel just like home. The whole place consists of minimalist Melaka designs. A lounge is provided with a sofa and also a resting area with a shelf of all sorts of books for you to choose from. The toilets are extremely clean and comfortable. Breakfast (toast, coffee and tea) is provided. If you find their brekkie too little, other foods are available right at your doorstep. That's how convenient this place is.

Overall, this place is one of the best I've ever stayed. The feeling it gives you is even better than that of a hotel. My room mate actually stained her bed but the host really took it lightly and just said "no worries". If are going Melaka, this is definitely the place you should stay and not the hotels which are faraway from Jonker Walk.

This guest house is located in the very accessible Jonker Street, where the weekend night market stalls are lined. Such is the convenience that one would have to bear with the din created by its surroundings.

We were assigned a Double Bed Room on the 2nd level. Unfortunately, our room is situated directly above a retail shop, which only closes at 11pm. The problem is during its operation hours, we can hear music being played and transmitted directly through the wooden floor boards (Building was previously a 17th century Dutch Mansion) of the room. Though we were quite mentally prepared with this, given that its website had provided this information, we still found the room a little bit noisy.

Compared with the other guest houses I had known, Number Twenty wins in terms of its interior and furnishings, which is of contemporary tropical style. It should appeal to young travellers who do not mind staying in a place that offers common sharing bathroom facilities. If you enjoy soaking in the wonderful atmosphere of the weekend night market, Number Twenty will suit you.
