“Found in the Dutch Square”
Reviewed March 10, 2014

This old fountain is the centre piece of the old Dutch Square. It is a fountain erected in memory of Queen Victoria and it was erected in 1904. It is surrounded by the old Dutch buildings in the square, as well as some tacky souvenir stalls :). This is also the meeting place for all the rickshaw drivers in Melaka. Great photo opportunities.

“Pleasent visit for a photo op”
Reviewed January 2, 2014

Beautiful site and well maintained. Mostly original brickwork, I believe, and still retains plenty of old world charm. Don't expect too much (its solely a fountain) but the workmanship was beautiful to see. Very popular spot for tourist photos, so be patient when lining up for a photo!

“3 Reasons why this is where every tour of historic Melaka should begin”
Reviewed October 28, 2013

1. Queen Victoria's Fountain is in the heart of the Dutch Square of the historic city of Melaka. From here, you can walk to many of the other historical sites (The Stadthuys Malacca, Christ Church, the Tan Beng Siew Clock Tower, Middlesburg Fort, etc), tourist spots (Jonker Street, Maritime Museum, etc), and malls.

2. The Tourist Information Centre (beside the Middlesburg Fort) is just across the street. The centre has very friendly and helpful staff. BE SURE TO CHECK OUT THE SCHEDULE OF THEIR FREE GUIDED TOURS.

3. One of the top tourist must-dos in Melaka is to get a by-the-fountain photo taken. On busy hours, you would need to queue in order to get a good photo beside this more than a century old Melaka icon.

“"In memory of a great Queen"”
Reviewed June 28, 2013

You can't miss the Queen Victoria's fountain as it's situated in the middle of Dutch Square. A throwback to the days of Empire but it has been very well preserved and provides a good photo opportunity.
The inscription reads " Victoria Regina 1837- 1901. Erected by the people of Malacca in memory of a great Queen 1904."
Get there early unless you want to queue to photograph it!

“Historical POM Monument that still functons”
Reviewed June 23, 2013

Britain's longest reigning monarch's commemorative tribute is indeed a sight to behold. Impresive, majestic, historical. The prized backdrop for many pictures.

A throw back to the Pommies' glory days of Empire & Crown when colonies, incuding those in the Straits Settlements, were thought to be forever Engand's.

Fortunately, the elegant, ornamentally decorated 100 yr old fountain is preserved and maintained, thrilling Malaccans and visitors now & for generations to come.
