Emperor Hotel Malacca
Ranked #108 of 168 Hotels in Melaka
Reviewed September 21, 2010

It was a last minute decision to head for Malacca for the weekend, hence most hotels were fully booked. We left the booking to a friend and truly appreciate that we could get away for the weekend for a golf game.

We are not so particular with our choice of accomodation since it is only a night's stay.

The stay would have been more pleasant if there is better ventilation at the lobby & warm breakfast served.

Location : Not very far from the waterfront (can walk - 15 min max walk). Waterfront is ythe main attraction in Melaka so this hotel might be a good idea to keep as base, as it is far enough from the hustle to give you peaceful sleep.

Rooms : The hotel does seem like its seen better days, and hasnt been renovated in recent times. Though everything is clean, the fixtures and fitting are old. The windows of the rooms have very nice views, but are kept surprisingly dirty. If possible, ask for a higher floor room as they all have a great view of the city

Value/Service : Not your regular budget hotel. The prices are a little bit more for the amenities, but its ok. Breakfast was included for us and was quite a sufficient spread (though not very tasty).
The hotel has ample parking. The lifts are too slow, so be ready to enjoy the view of the city for a long time while waiting for them to come.

Stayed a night on Saturday 5th June, not because of the hotel look or the name, Emperor but being on a Saturday, most rooms in the city have all been fully booked.
Paid RM 188 nett for a superior room, queen bed with breakfast for 2.
Room is like 1960's & 1970's - really need to change, upgrade, renovate, if no money, time to demolish the whole building. You are sitting on a nice location, wasted on this hotel ! Reminds me of Mainland China 2 - 3 star hotel. Loud water turning on from next room, toilet flushing. Doors - can't be open with keys if you pressed in the button knob. Leaking bathrooms, dirty srummy-looking toilet tiles. TV is the old Cathode Ray type, no remote control.
Breakfast is served below lobby ground floor, scary looking dinggy place. Serving is bad -white (unfresh) bread, fried noodle, bake beans, scambled eggs. Lousy food all around!

For the price we paid, it is VERY VERY expensive. They should tear it down, for it is a disservice to the tourist industry of Malacca. Malacca is such a nice place, nice people. Anh tourists who've stayed in this hotel will have a negative image about Malacca. What a pity it is still operating.

We stayed here for 1 night in May 2010 for about 110 RM for a double room. Staywise, we had a good experience.

The good points about the hotel:
Location – Situated just 1 street walking distance away from the historic city centre. But unlike hotels on Jonker street, this is in a quiet neighbourhood, allowing you peaceful sleep at night.
Parking space – The hotel has a huge parking compound.
The view – Ask for rooms on higher floors. You can get a sea-view room or a riverfront view room.

The hotel is a little old though & the fixtures/furniture while functional, are a little old. The biggest problem though were the elevators – they take a lot of time to go up & down. And if one of them breaks down or in the morning when the tour groups are leaving for breakfast, it takes about 5-10 mins to get down to the lobby.

Overall – the Emperor is stayable, though the price could be a bit lower.

It was Christmas' weekend in December '09, we booked a '4-persons' family package. That was inclusive of a extra bed. The bed was a fold-away type spring bed which is partially broken. I asked for a change for the bed and extra towels and was told that the hotel is overbooked and ran out of towels and also spare beds. The rooms were old and also dirty. Definitely will not come here again!

The first day when we arrived at this hotel at 4pm, rooms were not ready (check-in time 2pm). Lobby full of people waiting for their room. Staff's informed only 1 cleaner incharge of the whole building in Emperor Hotel. The toilet was dirty and toilet bowl once flush, water flood out from the floor. We regreted choosing this hotel. Any other hotel will be still better than this. We have compared, others is nicer and newer but all are fully booked.

I stayed in Emperor hotel on 1st Jan 2010. It was me, my mom and hubby, so i asked for an extra bed in the room. The room was ok for sleeping purposes i.e. bed sheet, pillow etc were clean. Yes I agree the hotel is run down particulary the carpet and I saw some dirt on the shower curtains, but its ok, as they are not charging too high. We paid RM 215 for three person including breakfast. The breakfast had variety, but I would rate the tasteto be very basic, but then I did not have any high expectations either. If you are looking for a cheap accomodation, thats clean, but not really new, then you can choose this hotel. But if you are expecting new carpet, new furniture, well then let me tell you that they are amongst the oldest hotel in the town. One last thing, their location is good, just 10 minutes walk away from central places of attraction.
