It smells a bit, but one of the cafe/bar by the river is the best place to be at sunset when there is breezy to watch the boats go by

Even with occasional sewer whiffs, this was our primary enjoyment in Malacca. On the other hand, some of the sidewalks on the streets are an obstacle course.

Saw lots of Melekka from the river which you wouldn't see otherwise. Even saw a 6ft long Monitor Lizard swimming along side!

Whilst the boat trip is interesting (although the sound reproduction of the commentary is poor) it is expensive if you decide to stop off at the downstream end of the trip. A round trip fare does not allow you back on if you take a stop off.

There's really nothing that excited me in this city, the talked about 'Jonkers walk' was nothing more than just the busiest street in town selling goods, there were only a few cafes and most had no where to sit out at as the street is fairly narrow, we thought it might be mentioned because of evening entertainment, but it was virtually closed down at 8pm!
A beer is about 4 times the amount of a meal, so it isn't that popular and so there aren't many bars to check out, let alone any good entertainment. There's not much to see either, there is an old fort, Little India, which was one street! a smallish china town area and a big wheel. The central river has some bars down it, but again very limited, it can look pretty at night in some parts of it, but there is just an overall lack of things to do or visit for tourists. It has a lot of potential, but nobody has bothered to invest in a infrastructure, apart form a lot of big hotels that are there for some reason.
walked up the river to the jetty end and decided to walk up to the coach station to check times to Singapore, got the 17 bus
back for 1.50Rg e , went for a nice squid noodle dish 4.50Rg with extra beansprouts and I got a Mc choc shake. Did comp stuff
watched rest of Rick Stein on Malacca and went on the sky tower 20Rg for a 360 view over the city. Walked up to Jonkers
walk to check it out in the evening, but no life, only a few bars! Went for something to eat – all new food - great at same
place and came back to hotel.
