Owner description: This 16th century Portuguese fort has been mostly destroyed; in its heyday it occupied a massive area and contained numerous government buildings, churches and hospitals.

I liked it very much. It is easy to picture the church and the fort in the context of their long ago history. It is a must visit. The only thing bad was all the modern buildings surrounding it. The reclaimed land spoils the look, because the fort used to be next to the sea. Because of that, you don't feel that it is in a strategic location. Better visit now before everything is spoiled.

I was disappointed as i expected the fort to be larger. But it wasnt larger than the pictures i had already seen. Place to take a few pics and walk around for a couple of minutes. Walking in will take you back in time.

Melaka is a city full of history. This is one of the place you have to visit. The history of Melaka is amazing! Lots of reading for us to understand the story behind all the historic buildings in the whole city.

Don't miss this although it is hard to avoid as it is on the tourist walk around from the square. Note the VOC insignia on the back plaque above the door. The Dutch papering over the portugese! Tut tut. Also keep going from there and have a look in the Sultans palace - fascinating and best museum in Malacca.

Yes, this Portuguese Fort is well worth an early visit before all the rickshaws and vendors arrive. I walked down from St Paul's Hill which should also not be missed but again go early .
