Just like its counterpart Macau (with the famous St. Paul's Ruins), a ruin is the city's landmark and in Malacca's case, it is the Porta de Santiago Fort, better known as A'Famosa.
The ruins are always full of people during the weekends, just hanging around or taking photos. In the compound is the Fort itself as well as numerous old cannons and even some of the original foundations of the demolished defense walls, of which the A'Famosa was a part of.
If you want to explore the Malacca Historical Zone further, then the A'Famosa is the perfect base to kick things off, before proceeding to other sights like St. Peter's Church, the Stadhuys, Museum of Islamic Civilization, Christ Church, and the famous Jonker Street.
