One of those places where every day you find something new and interesting. It can be another little coffee place or restaurant, perhaps a temple or boutique. Who knows? After 6 days we had only scratched the surface. On the last morning we happened by the Chinese Buddhist temple whilst an open air cremation was on the go. We stayed in Chinatown and did not regret that decision for a minute. Everything is within walking distance. Go up market at Hard Rock Café or Casa Del Rio or forget it and get into the little places around town - better really and half the cost. This is one of those places where the stress just rolls off you (except for night market nights which may not be everyone's cup of tea - but worth doing the once). Get away a bit from Jonkers Street too as there are plenty of interesting vignettes elsewhere around the area. Explore and enjoy!!

We were told when in Melaka, we have to try the "Hainanese Chicken Rice Ball". Well, with so many of the restaurants serving them, we were so glad, our local friends knew where to take us... to the original restaurant.

Lovely architecture, gorgeous lighting and brilliant weekend night market make this area so special. The people are friendly, there are good drinking spots and some really lovely places to eat. I would recommend a few nights stay here as there is much to see and a nice public pool if you get too hot! It is hot!

Just make sure you walk around Chinatown full of great shops and the unexpected shops, so easy to include where ever you are staying in Malacca

I guess they call it Chinatown because of the Chinese who operate most, if not all of the stalls selling their wares. It is actually Jonker Walk, which houses "Chinatown". There are also eateries where you get very good authentic Baba-Nyonya food, which are owned by the Baba-Nyonya Community ( Peranakkan - ethnic Chinese populations of the British Straits Settlements of Malaya ).

They sell all kinds of unneeded junk here. Bargain before you buy anything. But first learn the Art of Bargaining please. Any Malaysian will teach you and some tourists who have travelled to the Far East, including my family in the U.S. and England...they're experts!
