“A Nice Village of Well-Kept Traditional Houses”
Reviewed June 11, 2013

This is an interesting place to see a kampung or village of houses that are absolutely charming. Many of the houses are made of wood, and one of them is actually a "museum" (which was unfortunately closed when we were there). However, many of the houses have become "homestays" while others were selling drinks, cookies or ice-cream. That's the sign of commercialism.

Nevertheless, a stroll around the kampung brings about a different feel of Malacca, compared to visits to the malls. One side of the kampung actually is the embankment the river, which adds to the ambience. Kampung Morten is a small compact area that would take no more than 1-2 hours to visit.

“Fascinating Look at Someone's Home”
Reviewed May 1, 2013

We were shown around by a relative of the house owners, and later joined by one of the elderly owners. It was interesting to see all the ornaments and trinkets they have collected over the years, as well as learning about what the area used to be like, and seeing examples of traditional Malay style furniture and decor. We got to try out the Malay bride and groom chairs too.

“The Great Living Museum in Melaka”
Reviewed March 23, 2013

Happened to discover this lovely living museum village very near the Ramada Plaza Hotel. I am glad the government has decided to preserve this village and make it a living Museum. Typical small Melaka houses lined up the river, beautifully decorated with lovely flowers. I guess all the kampong people have green fingers; it is so nice to see such colorful plants decorating these houses.

“Really nice people and interesting spot”
Reviewed March 21, 2013

I walked the promenade and saw this old villa. It's called villa because it is larger than the buildings around in the old Malay Village. This is the last spot you can see how malay people lived before. The owners will tell you about the history of the family and so you learn about the culture. Old interoir elements are shown and you learn about the architecture with a open rood. Really enjoyed the tour. In the end it is woth to donate, cause the family don't recieve money from the goverment compared to the 20 goverment driven museums in the town.

“A blast from the past”
Reviewed March 16, 2013

A delightful experience to see how life was so many years ago and the added flavour of having a personal guide by the lovely old lady who owns the villa made this very memorable. It was good to have our photograph taken by her in the wedding poise of that time as it will be a momento. We enjoyed the river walk to the villa and caught the river cruise back making it an excellent day out
