Owner description: The Hindu deity Vinoyagar, recognizable by the elephant head, is also known as Ganesg. This temple’s colorful exterior is at odds with its gloomy interior.

This Hindu Temple located on Harmony street is a very colourful building on the outside. It is amazingly positioned right beside a Mosque and also close to a Chinese temple. Shows how much religious tolerance was around in earlier times in Melaka. Make sure you take clothing to cover up before you enter the temple.

A must visit if you are an Indian. The temple was built by Chitty community who migrated to Malaysia 600 years back. While they no longer speak Tamil, they continue to practice Tamil traditions and Hinduism. This temple itself is not an architecture marvel or a grand structure, looks like another pillaiyar koil along bylanes of Tamilnadu. It is currently managed by Nagarathar community.

Do light up a gingely oil lamp when you go there to get an authentic south Indian temple visit experience. They also give boiled chickpea as prasada (offering for god), do ask the temple priest for it and taste it.

This Hindu temple is the oldest in Malaysia it is on Harmony St and next door to a Mosque. I think in the past there was a lot more religious tolerance. It is well worth a visit with colourful Hindu Gods.
I find the Hindu religion very difficult to understand

Felt humbled to be able to visit the first temple in Malaysia right next to a mosque! Makes me wonder how much tolerance people used to have towards other religion. A lesson fr all to learn
