All things considered, it wasn't bad. But it wasn't good either.
Biggest plus: Location is really convenient and there is free parking for the hotel (behind the hotel), about 8-10 cars.
Service was ok.
Breakfast was definitely pathetic for most people but for us it wasn't a big deal as we are not big breakfast eaters and can make do with just scrambled eggs and baked beans and acceptable coffee. Besides, there are lots of cheap eateries just outside.
Sheets and Towels were clean but somehow felt itchy. Not sure if it was the material or leftover construction fine dust that is all around the hotel as they seem to still be renovating.
We had the back most room on the ground floor, with a small window but the room still felt rather clusterphobic. The floor was not clean. The bathroom tiles were grubby with mould and hair and assorted fibres. Odd given that it would look like it was renovated not too long ago. Perhaps they need better housekeeping.
This hotel is not soundproofed at all! The main door is so light that we can hear every footstep outside our door. And we sure had a busy walkway as it leads to the carpark. You can heard your neighbours very clearly too.
Despite not facing the main road, some very loud groups (families, young travellers) will drive people who are sound sensitive very mad with the constant yakking at the top of their lungs. Demographics I guess.
I would pay a bit more for one of the newer boutique hotels on that stretch or play it safer with a proper 3-4 star hotel near Makota or by the sea.
I won't be back.

You really can't complain, for the price you are paying, it's considered fantastic. Clean rooms with ensuite toilet, a choice of American or local breakfast (not great but for the price, u really won't complain) and really nice authentice baba and nyonya decor at the reception and courtyard - making you feel like you have been transferred back in time. They even give you toiletteries pack, which not all 2 star hotel would normally give. They have plenty of rooms as well.

Location is simply the best here, it's at the end of jonker walk. That means accessibility to everywhere is GREAT minus the chaos you get if you are at the heart of china town. It can be abit noisy at the heart of jonker walk as there are quite a few pubs there, so Baba house's location is just great.

We basically walk everywhere although the streets there are narrow with my little son on tow, we had to be very careful. Food is plentiful around the area...even halal ones (Go to Geographer's cafe - good food, atmosphere and even have live music at night)!

We paid just above RM100 for a room, we thought it's sooo cheap with all that we got.

Perhaps the hotel is a bit dilapidated but so long as its clean and for the price, I wouldn't mind. It's good to note that they are upgrading the hotel, so can't wait to see the outcome soon!

However, do not expect any service at all....we had to lug our bags ourselves, but again no complains for the price.

Room Tip: DOn't bother with rooms with windows (you have to pay slightly more for it) as the windows open...

This restored house is offering comfortable accommodation, including air con, in the heritage district. It even boasts a lift/elevator. Breakfast was totally uninspiring, so I'd recommend you go for room only. There are several places for breakfast a short walk away. WiFi works in many of the rooms, but not all. However there is a good signal in the lobby. The location is great, as most of the sights are within a 15 minute walk. Ask for drop off at Casa Del Rio if you are travelling with Luxury Travel from Singapore. For less than UK £40 our room was amazing value. Large, king size bed, en suite shower and toilet. My other half had a Thai massage in the hotel, she was very impressed.

Hotel has a tired looking lobby and stuffy courtyard where breakfast was served. Very simple buffet breakfast so we went out to a nice cafe at the next street for breakfast instead. The room we had though was AMAZING. It was called the Heritage Heeren room, newly renovated and on the 3rd floor attic. It was huge - fully carpeted, bigger than 2 standard rooms combined and all the interior furnishings including towels, bed linen and toilet were new. Toilet had bother rain shower and handheld shower. I had one of the best sleep in my life. There was even a huge wall mounted flat screen tv! It was so comfy we overlooked all the other aspects of the hotel. We had a look at the other rooms and they were no where as good as the one we were given. We got lucky!! Staff were friendly and nice. If u stay here, ask for the Heritage Heeren room! It was called the Superior Double Room when I booked online at bookings.com

We came here last sunday, march 10th 2013, booked 2 Superior Queen - No Window for 1night.
The location of this hotel is fantastic, situated on a street right next to Jonker Walk, but not crowded as jonker walk. It is quiet and peaceful
Staff in the hotel are helpful and friendly.
The room were pretty standard but it was neat and clean.
Free wifi with super connection.
No unpleasant experience in here, so, we will be back forsure if we visit Melaka next time :D

The Baba House is a very basic accommodation. Lots of aspects can be improved. I found the reception is not very organised. We booked 2 rooms and there was a dispute on the type of rooms we have booked and the rate. The receptionist consulted a lady whom i believe is the supervisor and the owner of Baba House (she dressed very casual - a t-shirt and shorts with a pair of flip-flop). The way she handled the dispute was not very friendly but not overly rude either.
Both rooms are very small with no window at all. We requested and paid for an extra bed for one of the room and it is in fact only a mattress. With the extra mattress in the room, there is basically no floor space at all in the room. The floor is tiled and not carpeted and i believe that it has not been cleaned for ages. I walked for 3 steps in the room and my feet became black and dusty. The air-conditioning unit in the room is very noisy.
The breakfast is very simple and very basic. It was an absolute chaos during the breakfast hour in the Baba Cafe where the breakfast is served. Not much food selection for breakfast. The lady serving the breakfast is very friendly.
The location is excellent and it is close to almost all the attractions!!

This hotel is affordable and serviceable. It's in a great location, just right around the corner from Jonkers and everything else you want to see. I think I paid $50USD for our room, and that was with very little notice. We had a king bed, a great aircon, a hot shower, and no windows, which made the room nice for sleeping in. If you've done much travel around Asia, you can probably agree that's all you can ask for! (plus a Western toilet).

We really like this place, despite the quirks. Yeah there's rust in the shower, but what do I care? There are clean towels! Rejoice! Plus, the staff are really friendly. The older night clerk even gave us extra water when we came in very late on Friday night. Very nice.

Just FYI, the spa only takes cash, and it opens at noon. The spa does not have my recommendation for those reasons.
