“A great colonial hotel”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 15, 2013

Just a great colonial hotel.we felt we had stepped back in time! Beautifully appointed.good location for the heritage area!
We got Mr Tey( taxi driver) to take us around for 4 hrs.He charged 40 ringitts an hour.He was worth every cent! New the place very well and the history.and he was reliable! Ph:0126694806! ( I have never given a ph number out,but believe me he was fantastic!!)
The staff at the hotel were great.always available to help!
Rooms were spacious and clean.
We spent 2 nights there and wished we had stayed 3 !
Breakfast was plentiful!
We just loved Malacca!
Hopefully,we will be back

The Majestic Malacca is a 1920s mansion restored by YTL to a boutique retreat. Its a charming heritage stay option to immerse yourself in Malacca's vibrant and rich cultural history.

Located along the Bunga Raya road, its about a 15minutes walk to the old city, nearby attractions (Melaka Riverside) and Jonker street. Do plan a morning or evening walk to these attractions as Melaka weather can get extremely hot. Tip: The hotel offers a complimentary guided historical walk.

We were greeted warmly by the staff, and welcomed back each time we returned. The lobby area provided little local treats and a colonial elegance for lounging/reading. The swimming pool and gym is small. Dining at the hotel is scheduled at 7:30am - 10:30am (breakfast), 12nn - 2:30pm (lunch), 3:00pm - 6:00pm (tea) and 7:00pm - 10:30pm (dinner). Breakfast was satisfactory nothing fancy or interesting.

The hotel also offers a spa village with therapies based on the blend of Chinese and Malay culture. Turned down service was unique, the service staff left us a plate of Peranakan sweet treats.

The hotel provided a map with a self-guided walk around Melaka's historical landmark, however, the river boardwalk was closed for construction and we had to take another route to Kampung Jawa.

When we travel for personal pleasure, we do like to stay in hotels that are outside of the typical big 5 star hotels mainly because we want to learn more about the local culture, meet and talk with local people, and enjoy the warm atmosphere generated by the staff and us appreciating mutually every sign of the ‘random kindness' so hard to experience these days. The hotel is truly amazing place to stay in - from the main lobby, library, dining room, pool side all the way to the rooms. We came here to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary and felt like royalty from the moment we walked in the lobby - we were greeted by the manager of the hotel, were seated with refreshments during the check-in time and at the same time learned about the history of the building going back some 90+ years. Our room was full of surprises every day and night - from the flowers and refreshments to the bath with rose petals to little treats waiting every evening. The hotel staff is incredible – everyone did more than we could ever expect. From greetings to serving the food and occasional coffee and tea to helping us with tips on what to see in this historical city. The personnel smiles and is helpful naturally – not because they were told - something really rare these days. We enjoyed the cooking class and the massage in their spa as well. Highly recommended to anyone who wants to slow down and enjoy every moment of their stay. Our next stop was in Cameron Highlands Resort, some 400 km north from Malacca – hotel management arranged for our transportation to this hotel with utmost care – from the taxi with flat rate, packed lunch to the last minute refreshments and local food / snacks while waiting for the taxi all the way to extending their care to this next hotel. We will never forget this strongly positive experience.

Beautiful little place that renders the old charm of the city during colonial times. Nice decoration made of wood and ceiling fans, great level of service coming from all members of the staff. The breakfast in particular was a real treat, with a choice of house made banana pancakes or cinammon French toasts for example. The room was really elegant and comfortable. The location is good, with a 10mns taxi ride to get to the old city or market areas. The swimming pool is rather small and not ideally placed so that you barely get any sun during the day. There were only a dozen seats available so you might choose another place if you are looking to sunbath. I have also noticed an extremely noisy water system inside the rooms. When the room located above ours wanted to take a bath or a shower, our room would get very noisy until the bath is full or the shower is stopped... I found it very strange and not acceptable, really. But I guess the hotel has to deal with an extremely old water / pipeline system and that there is not much that could be done about it apart from destroying everything and rebuild it from scratch. Even if this was really troublesome, I still feel that the hotel deserves a good five stars for the level of service and for its atmosphere in general.

We stayed at the Majestic for two nights in September. Only a 15min walk to the town centre, lovely along the river. The service was genuine and fantastic, from the tea upon arrival. We enjoyed the food for breakfast and dinner as well!

We traveled as a foursome this September to the World Heratige City of Malacca and stayed 2 nights at The Majestic Hotel.
While we were not in Malacca long enough to experience everything that this city has to offer, i want to tell you about an experience at The Majestic that will stay with me long after the memories of this historic town fade. You can then decide if this is the hotel for you.
We started our trip visiting family in Singapore where several members of the family had been ill with flu. We traveled by train to Malacca, the whole reason for the stay there was to go to the famous Saturday night market on Jonker Street and we wanted to have a delcious Hamburger at the celebrated Geographers Cafe.
After a day of visiting the Dutch Square, and seeing the sights of the city, we came back to the beautifully appointed Majestic to get ready for our night on the town. In preperation for the evening, my partner became ill with the bug that we had transported from Singapore, and we knew that our night on Jonker Street was not to be. Our friends left for the evening, and we stayed in, destined to have room service. I had an Idea, and not comepletely sure i could pull it off, I went down to the barman who had made us such tasty drinks earlier in the evening.
I told him that we had so been looking forward to going to the Geographers for dinner, and now Gerry was not up to going. Before i could finish my story, he stopped me and said, no problem, he would get on his motorbike and bring us dinner from the Cafe! he asked me what i wanted, and I told him about reading of the famous Hamburger. After clearing it with his manager, he zoomed off into the night for the famed delicacy. Five minutes later, he was at the restaurant saying they had stopped serving burgers, what eles could he bring. Roaring back 15 minutes later we were eating chicken satay and watching movies in the beautiful suite.
The next morning, our friends told us of their wonderful night on Jonker, the trishaw ride back to the Hotel, and the great meal at Geographers, and how sorry we did not get to experience it.
But of course, we did, and we can't thank the staff at the hotel enough. Should you stay at this grand colonial residence, absolutley!
Walking around the comfortable public rooms, you get a feel for the gracious way of life in this former mansion, and the addition of the resident tower is seemless. I was sorry to not have visited the spa, it looked amazing, but we did spend time in the pool. The Gym was a beautiful glass box, and was well equipped.
Meals in the beautifully appointed restaurant were delicious, and breakfast was not to be missed. Thank you Majestic, I shall never forget your kind hospitality whlie in the Straits of Mallaca.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a view of the river.
