“High Tea!”
Reviewed October 23, 2013

We only had high tea in this beautifully renovated boutique hotel. The high tea was excellent and included hot chicken pies about the size of a curry puff straight from the oven. In addition there were sandwiches, scones with cream, cakes and other bakery items. The selection of teas was also good and it made an excellent ending to a long day in Melaka.

This property has been noted by us as somewhere that we want to stay when we next come to Melaka.

Spent 2 nights at The Majestic as part of a recent road trip around Malaysia. The Majestic is an absolute gem. The staff are universally welcoming and helpful. It's delightful that they address every guest by name. Makes one feel a little special. The hotel itself is a lovely building sitting somewhat incongruously next to a high rise. Nevertheless, it's immaculately kept and full of old world colonial charm which is cleverly reflected in the new block behind the original building that housed our bedroom. Our room was beautiful, with a lovely four-poster and a free-standing tub in the bathroom. On arrival, we were accompanied to our room and presented with a pot of hot tea and two cups in a pretty little wicker container. A very nice touch. We ate only breakfast there but it was superb, with a great choice of hot dishes, freshly squeezed juices, fruit and pastries. Yum! Melaka itself is a small town with a colonial square and bustling Chinatown at its centre. Opposite the hotel, across a small river, is a preserved traditional Malaysian village that's worth a look. We took a trishaw trip all around the town that lasted an hour and cost around £10. Great fun and fantastic value. Overall, Melaka is worth a day or two of your time if travelling in Malaysia and The Majestic should definitely be your hotel of choice.

I loved this place. It was elegant and regal without feeling pretentious. The décor throughout the entire place was beautiful. The food was great, the pool while not huge was just enough and the service throughout was fantastic. The only negative that we found was the noise from the adjoining room. Not a problem during the day but we did have one night where the guests next to us arrived back to their rooms very late at night and showered/bathed, which they are entitled to do, however the noise of the running water and their talking was very loud and woke us up. I know in most hotels you can hear the plumbing in neighbouring rooms at times but this was very, very loud. But it did only happen the once and it is not enough to put me off staying here again. Loved it!

Just returned from a tour of Malaysia where the Majestic was the first hotel in which we stayed and it certainly got us off to a very good start. The hotel is delightful and the staff are so polite and seem to genuinely care about their guests' welfare.
Although the hotel is a little bit away from the centre of the town, it is a pleasant walk along by the river to reach the heart of the Chinatown, where there are numerous restaurants etc.
We did the free walking tour organised by the hotel, which was excellent. Our lady guide took us to the key sights of Malaka and spent a considerable time explaining the history of this very interesting town. I would recommend anyone staying here to take advantage of this.
All in all, an excellent start to our holiday.

What a truly lovely hotel. Enjoyed a weekend here. Found the staff cheerful and ever attentive. Great service. More than adequate breakfast selection.
The only complaint I have would be in regard to the lazy guests who left glasses on the ground around the pool and many who were too lazy to pick up their used towel and place in the used towel basket.
Loved the little treats like the cookies in the library and lobby. One word of warning, don't eat the "rocks" in the jar near the reception desk. Both my husband and I figured they must have been placed there to deter children from eating them! Definitely not suited to our western taste buds.
One tip, it is a bit of a walk to Jonker Street and weather quite hot. Do your walking earlier or later in the day when it has cooled down a bit.

The lobby and reception was an old mansion which gives the whole property old world charm. The tidbits scattered around the lobby area are a nice touch. Rooms are decorated in a fashion befitting the old mansion entrance. The big let down was the poor maintenance. The windows poorly sealed allowing the sound from the hospital next door and loud exhaust sounds to permeate the room at 3am!

Loved the location facing the melaka river. The facade and the lobby was so inviting and lovely with the historical interior and exterior features most alluring. The staff were so friendly and helpful. The library was also very charming and comfortable.
Loved the restaurant which is located 1 floor above the lobby thus having the historical charms too. Good healthy breakfast spread. Loved the delicious tropical fruits that were offered and the "kaya " which is a coconut and pandan jam . Our room was so so comfortable especially the pillows and bed which were fit for Royalty. Really nice gym but swimming pool was a bit too small. Good easy walk to Jonker walk, melaka river and the Stadhuys/ museums.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with river views
