Before I list out the plus points of this property of which there are many, let me list out the cons:
- The surroundings: it's wedged between a open drain, rundown shophouses, a large hospital and a parking lot
- a construction site covered most of the river view it's only later once you find your bearings around the place or when you check into the room do you realize that it's the river behind the large asbestos sheets cordoning the construction site.
- The large gravelly courtyard doesn't do any credit and by that time the wife was giving me the looks as to whether I have taken the right call

But once inside the story changes it is the stylish luxury boutique hotel that all the trip-advisor reviews promised it to be. The service was faultless the ambience was tasteful, the rooms are very thoughtfully done and the breakfast is excellent ( though a little limited). Wife loved the Spa and surprisingly it is a decently large property with 10 storey wing not apparent at first glance behind the heritage wing which houses the reception, common area, bar and the restaurant on the first floor

Then there is stuff about which I am neutral:
- It's one of those properties which are not put together keeping kids in mind, the room service menu was very a French-Asian hybrid fancy but no burger, Mac-cheese a 4 year old would relish
-the pool was the smallest possibly a hotel or even a house can have and that too starting from a depth of 4feet, again something the 4 year old couldn't really enjoy given the whether was suitably hot and there was nothing else for him to do when hanging around with me while mom was in the Spa
-the walk to the heritage city is longish, 5 minutes longer than what would be termed as comfortable and thru a busy chaotic road and its usually pretty hot during the day. Also far enough for the rickshaw drivers to either try and fleece you in the first attempt and then after the bargaining is over to think that whether they really want to work hard and go that far

But overall the hotel experience was great, lead by the exceptional service given the options in Melaka if I go again would probably choose again...

Room Tip: Insist on floor 5 and above otherwise the Heritage wing & the construction across the road will...

I guess my expectations were high given the high ratings given by other viewers. My thoughts:-

Reception - superb service.

Rooms - as expected. Were exactly like the room image provided by hotel website.

Bathroom amenities - surprisingly was very basic with a small hairdryer provided.

Wifi - not free!

Breakfast - disappointing selection and quality, I had high expectations after staying in their sister property in Pangkor previously which had superb breakfast spread. It was fully booked that weekend, so i felt that there were inadequate waiters serving. And somehow the waiters seem to be busy with everything else other than serving. We requested for coffee twice, but they forgot, so we served ourselves instead. And our french toast came out cold!

Location - not central. Have stayed previously in Courtyard@Heeren Hotel which was central

Hotel architecture - No doubt it was an amazing property with a very "colonial" feel. But not implemented throughout unlike Raffles Hotel in Sg or E&O Hotel in Penang.

All in all, if i were to stay over in Melaka again, my first choice hotel will be Courtyard. But if you dont mind the location and require 5 star service (hopefully you wont encounter the same breakfast experience that i did), this will be your ideal hotel.

Enjoyed a weekend at this beautiful, exceptionally well-run hotel. It's about a 15-20 minute walk from most of the historic sights in Malacca through lanes of the shophouses and mid-century buildings that make Malacca a wonderland for architecture buffs. The lobby, library, and dining room are located in a thoroughly renovated historic mansion and guest rooms in a modern, quiet, sensitively-designed tower behind. Rooms are brilliantly decorated, convenient but furnished in a tropical-colonial style. Only drawback is that wifi in rooms is charged. Service is exemplary. Highly recommended.

We stayed at the Majestic for 3 nights as part of our tour round Malaysia. First impressions are not good as it's out of the town centre in an area plagued by roadworks and construction sites, but ... once inside the hotel it's a different world. The interior is lovingly restored old colonial splendour and the rooms are impressive, spacious and well appointed with some interesting quirky features. The staff are friendly, welcoming and helpful - you get the impression they are adopting you as part of the hotel's extended family. The food is excellent, particularly the breakfast, which is splendid - that's the only word for it!

The location isn't actually a problem, as the riverside is just across the street from the hotel. It takes about 20 mins to walk into the centre of Melaka, the Unesco heritage area and buzzing Jonkers Street along the spectacular and colourful riverside walkway. This is a hidden gem with amazing wall paintings, decorated bridges, boat trips and the occasional monitor lizard (in the river!) If you really don't fancy walking back to the hotel a taxi takes less than 5 mins.

Overall our stay in Melaka was a great experience, and this hotel was the ideal base from which to explore this fascinating and vibrant city. Highly recommended.

We stayed at the Majestic Hotel for two nights as part of our trip around Malaysia. The hotel is advertised as 5 star, but as we approached the entrance from a scruffy back street surrounded by new construction and adjacent to a 40 storey Hospital, we were decidedly shocked. the brochure pictures of the front of the hotel are cunningly disguised to hide its drab and scruffy surroundings. However once inside of the hotel it is easy to see how it is rated so high. The main reception area is old colonial style and detached from the main hotel bedrooms. The rooms were large and comfortable with a free standing claw footed bath and four poster bed. There was a small pool and gymnasium, which we didn't use as we were too busy exploring the nearby town. We dined at breakfast, which was very good and the service excellent. The main town and world heritage centre is about 15 mins walk along a very decorative river walk. This part of Melaka is excellent with plenty to see and do and plenty of restaurants serving good food and drink at treasonable prices.

The view from our room was of a couple of derelict buildings, the side of the large hospital and the construction site, but apart from that we did enjoy our stay and loved Melaka.

Room Tip: It is difficult to say due to the surrounding area, the room we had faced the river, but also all o...

We arrived here after a 12 hour flight and a 2 hour car journey so we were very tired. The hotel looked exactly like the photos on the website. The location is about 15-20 mins walk from the main street Jonka Street where the majority of the restaurants and the night markets are but we didnt find this a problem and walked it in both nights.
The hotel decor is very boutique style with dark wood floors and furniture. I thought the room was gorgeous. There was a four poster bed and a claw foot bath tub which could be part of the room or screened off for privacy.

The pool at the hotel is very small and in the shade but there is a lovely little gym on the same floor which is small but surprisingly well equipped.

I succumbed to jet lag and slept for a few hours and it was nice and quiet. We walked to Jonka Street and the night market there is very atmospheric and felt very safe to walk around. It was nice to see all the different foods on sale such as Cuttlefish and Durian Puffs. We ate at the Hard Rock Cafe the first night which was very good but expensive and the service was a bit slow.

The breakfast at the Malacca was very refined. There was cereal etc and then you ordered your main breakfast meal off a small menu . I had a cheese omlette which was delicious. The service as well was very attentive but sometimes a bit too attentive.

The hotel does a free historical walking tour twice a day at 10am and 5pm and provided us with a guide, bottled water and umberellas if needed. The guide was friendly and very knowledgeable and the walk was slow paced for about 2 hours. On the way we bought some little hand painted framed tiles. Later on we stopped at a little restaurant by the waterside and ate chicken curry which was nice but be prepared for bones and everything else included!

On another night we ate at a traditional Nonya restaurant called Nancy's cafe. We ordered several dishes and the food was very nice and quite cheap. After we had another look at the market on Jonka St and bought some earrings and then called at a cafe called Discovery cafe and watched a band. When we arrived back at the Majestic the staff always say "Welcome back" which i thought was lovely and made you feel at home.

All in all i highly recommend this hotel and would love to stay again some day.

We stayed here in February finding everything about this hotel up scale. It is a true boutique one.

The location is slighly removed from the center of the old town-about 5 blocks, but we were totally impressed with the staff, cleanliness, service, you name it.

The lobby is an old house married to a new building behind with very nice rooms. See the photos...nice pool, nice gym, good food, great room, nice view toward river.

Room Tip: Get a room on the front for sure, the higher the better.
