“Very Nice Property!!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 19, 2011

We stayed there for 2 nights when we visited Malacca. Was greeted by very warm & friendly staff when we checked in. It was fuss free & we were given towels to freshen up. We were lead to the room by another staff, briefing us on the hotel & room facilities & were served a pot of warm tea in a traditional basket. A good start to our stay.

Room was impeccable. Very comfortable four-poster king sized bed & the open bathroom with a clawed bath tub. The roll-down service in the evening had special touch. Two pieces of nonya kueh were placed on the coffee table.

Another plus point is the complimentary walking tour. The guide, Donavan was knowledgeable. He gave us a historical background of the sights in Malacca in the 3 hour tour.

The only gripe was the size of the pool. It was hardly long enough for a proper swim (less than 10m long!). More of a dipping pool than anything else.

The stay was one of the highlights of our Malaysia trip. This is definitely one of the better hotel we've come across in Malaysia. Hope that the standards can be maintained in this relatively new property, as many Malaysian hotels started off good but often fell into disarray over years with poor maintenance and management.

We really enjoyed the hotel and found the rooms well appointed and beautiful. In particular, we enjoyed Donvan's tour of Melaka and visiting Jonker's Street. When we return to Melaka, we will definetly stay in the Majestic. For more on our visit to Melaka, you can read here: [---]

Also of note, the food was excellent - in particular the chicken pot pie. It tasted just like my grandmother used to make. Also, for breakfast, we had the roti canai which was delicious hotel version of the popular mamak food.

The front of the hotel is a re-furbished old building that's connected to a 11 storey building just behind. The hotel has a modern-retro concept look, in which the retro outlays of the buildings are depicted in our modern times.
The Hotel Spa, named 'Village Spa' was amazing. They have a variety of treatments (facial, skin, etc...) and massages to choose from. It was great and one of the few massages when I was cringing or biting the pillow to endure the pain... Highly recommended.
The hotel also has a small swimming pool for you to cool off on a hot day and a pretty new and well-equipped gym.

The hotel isn't in the heart of the Malacca action (ie. Jonker Street) but I loved it anyway for its quiet location. Jonker is a 20min walk away, but hey... you can take in the atmosphere of the old streets of Malacca along the way.

Last of all, a special mention for Mr Bill Lim CF of Majestic Hotel. His warm hospitality and pleasant nature is definitely a rare find in hotels these days. Thank you very much.

The Majestic Malacca is probably the classiest hotel in the sleepy town. It is a former mansion that has been meticulously restored into a 50-room boutique hotel and managed by luxury hotel operator YTL. You can’t see it in the promotional photos of the hotel, but the original mansion is only one part of the hotel. It houses the reception area, restaurant, library and bar. At the back of the mansion is a small pool and gym. The guestrooms are located in a newly constructed mid-rise building at the back of the mansion. Although housed in a block, all the rooms are positioned so that they overlook the Melaka River.
The interior of the mansion is beautiful. Restored and antique furniture from the British colonial days are artfully strewn throughout the reception area. The floors boast original or restored tiles from the old days. We couldn’t help but think of Singapore’s Raffles Hotel. But Majestic is less intimidating and more intimate. Sophisticated without being fussy. Majestic by no means boast the same stature as Raffles Hotel. If Raffles Hotel is a gentleman’s private club, Majestic is the family home of a wealthy merchant.
Anyway, we were made to feel at home here. The staff are wonderful—attentive, warm and always ready to engage in a bit of banter. The rooms are comfortable and come with a claw-foot tub (though not marble). We like the black and white tiled floor of the bathroom, which lends a classy, old-school feel to the place. These elements are contrasted with modern fittings and the ubiquitous ‘open concept’ design where the stackable doors to the bathroom open up into the rest of the room. Perhaps modern guests prefer to bathe while watching TV?
Nonetheless, we were made to feel like we stepped back in time. In contrast to the busy and congested streets of Jonker (which is quite a walk away, give or take 30 minutes; much better to use the river cruise as a means of transport), the hotel is a welcome oasis. We were seduced into staying in more than we planned. The pool, although small, is delightful. It could be because we had all to ourselves. An example of the great service is when we were given a fruit platter without even asking while lounging by the pool!
There is a down side to the location of the hotel. Although Malacca is a small town mostly occupied by low-rise buildings, The Majestic is actually located further away from the historic core and surrounded by a few high-rises—a hotel, a mall and a hospital. The latter is right next door and its high floors actually dwarf the hotel. Not the fault of the hotel, but it somehow takes away a bit of its nostalgic charm. This also means that it is quite a trek to the town’s main drag. But other than that, this is a good base when exploring Malacca.

My mom was visiting me in Singapore for a month and I took her on two side trips. One was a pampering weekend at the Majestic. The staff was very welcoming, friendly, knowledgeable and super accommodating. They happily arranged a late supper (after the kitchen had already been closed), a private city tour (along the water with frequent water breaks) and then of course a full on spa treatment. My mom was happy to have some local flair in the meals but was relieved everything was indoors (away from bugs and heat). She was extremely happy with the bathtub (and abundance of hot water) <-which is not a norm for other cities we've traveled. She liked the candies in the lobby and even asked to take a flowered buggy home as a souvenir. Each night there were local sweets on the table with a note explaining the origins. Overall PERFECT way to pamper my mom.

My husband surprised me to a trip to Melaka for our 10th year wedding anniversary. He booked us an overnight stay at the Majestic Hotel.

I highly recommend this hotel if your budget permits. It's a bit pricey but it is all worth it!

All the hotel staff including the hotel manager, Mr. Ben, were extremely friendly and their service is just perfect!

Everything is just great about this hotel. The heritage, location, the service, the room...perfect!

They also have free heritage tour of Malacca. I would suggested to ask the tour guide to stop at the "Photo Spot" and give time for some picture taking.

Room Tip: all rooms are facing the river...better view.

Really special place. The facility is fantastic and the service was some of the best we have experienced in Asia. Lim Chow Fook, Guest Liaison Officer, took great care of us. The free guided tour of Melacca was well worth it. Guide was super knowledgeable. The hotel suggested we try Flavours restuarant which was a block away. We enjoyed it for a great local experience. The Geographer is a great spot for lunch or dinner.

Majestic Hotel exceeded our expectations in almost every way. Would love to go back some time.
