We stayed in this hotel one night in Apr 2007. It's within a well maintained historic building located in a nice street. The location was handy within the old town. The room was modest. Opening the room window would see the stair case, believed for fire escape, with a few outdoor aircon units sitting there. Outside the room, the high ceiling hotel included a sort-of-museum and a few nice decorated rooms. They are very well presented, particularly a room behind the lobby next to the court yard. There were bird nests in this well decorated room, and many birds flying in and out having fun. They were not swallows but looked similar. The court yard was nice. The breakfast was quiet ordinary, though.

We stayed at this hotel as it was very well reviewed on this and other travel forums and for good reason.

It is a very cute/quaint accommodation located in the heart of Chinatown in Melaka. Right around the corner there are several bars and the hotel is on a street parallel to the night market in Chinatown.

The rooms are very clean and well kept. Bathroom facilities are good and you are provided with soap and shampoo. Our shower was immense. The AC worked well and the room has a TV which received about 8 channels or so incl. a movie channel. Note: it seems most movies we saw had been edited for TV and language and sexual material, etc. were removed.

A large breakfast is served in a very nice dining area daily and includes eggs prepared as you like with coffee/tea/juice, fried hot dogs, fresh fruit and local noodle and rice dishes.

One area of the hotel caters to local sparrow populations and they nest in there. I didn't find this so cute as the room is covered with their "evidence" even though the doorways under the nests have small plastic awnings. They also make a lot of noise in the mornings, but this is apparently one of the distinctive features of the hotel.

I had considered other hotels in Melaka, however, in my walks around the city I was glad I selected Puri. By Malaysian standards it is a bit more expensive, but it is well worth it and the price isn't at all unreasonable.

Staff were very courteous and responsive and there are spa services available.

We arrived in Melaka by bus, so parking wasn't a concern for us, however, I don't know if the hotel has parking available if you are arriving by car. The hotel is located on a very narrow street with lots of traffic and sometimes it is difficult to walk down that street due to parked cars and a lack of sidewalks.

That said, I would certainly recommend this hotel to anyone staying in Melaka.

We really enjoyed our stay in the Hotel Puri. It's in a great location in Chinatown and has lots of character. The staff are friendly and helpful and we enjoyed dining in the outdoor courtyard.

The only downside was that the walls between the rooms were quite thin, so the TV in the room next door disturbed our sleep.

The hotel is beautiful and very charming. The rooms are modern while the public areas of the hotel are lovingly restored antique and Perranakan furniture, decorations and carved wood wall dividers. The floors are beautiful and colorful old tiles from Europe.

The garden patio eating area was a delight. The breakfast buffet food was average, the coffee was local, very strong and tasty.

The Off Street PARKING provided by the hotel could KILL you:
The parking area is locked so a hotel employee must go unlock the gate for you. The parking area is small so when the hotel is full the cars are parked in the driveway area. If you are one of the unlucky people and have your car parked in the driveway area(parked there as instructed by the hotel employee) then you will get a phone call to your HP and room asking you to move your car.

So when you are at dinner, getting a foot massage or sleeping at 7:00 in the morning YOU WILL BE CALLED. Do not give the hotel your hand phone number, it could ruin a nice dinner or massage.

Since my group of friends was planning on sleeping until 9:00 a.m. some of us were:

WOKE UP TWO HOURS EARLY by the hotel so the car could be moved again !!!! If only they had told us we would have given them the car key.

Not Nice

A woman in our group was very tired and need her sleep.

She was in a car accident later that and smashed up the car.

The hotel off street parking could kill you.

Sadly we were only able to squeeze in 1 night a the Puri would have loved to stay longer. Great location, very clean , nice rooms, lovely breakfast area, helpfull staff what more can I say! We were pleasantly surprised by Malacca as we had been told there is not much to do there but had a great time wandering around ( front desk staff will give you a walking map ) and shopping ( both Jonker St & the 2 shopping malls ) was great and cheaper than KL! If you have the time Malacca is well worth the trip and we would highly recommend the Puri.

Tucked away on a side street just off the main street of Chinatown area this hotel in close enough to the action to walk but not too close to hear all the noise. Private parking is available just a few meters down from hotel but gated so you have to go into the hotel first to get someone to have the gate open. Being here for Chinese New Year with lots of traffic, it was great to park the car and walk everywhere even with the 3 kids (7,4 &2) over the 3 days.

The room was clean and acceptable but nothing special. Just left Madarin Oriental in Kuala Lumpur (5+ stars)so standards are still a little high. AC worked great which was key after walking the town. Lots of steps to get to the 3rd floor which can be a challenge for little ones. Staff were helpful especially with the children. Breakfast buffet was good but other meals were so so at best and better to eat lunch and dinner out.

Would stay here again but will also be looking for other small boutique hotels like this one as alternatives.
