This is actually my second stay here. My first was in 2002, and back then I thought this place was charming with its local culture decoration. I also stayed in their Standard Room, but I found it a little too basic for me.
Recently (Dec. 2009), I managed to book their only available room, Superior Deluxe, due to the very peak season. The room was nearly twice more expensive than the Standard Room, but much larger and roomier. I was very comfortable with my room and room view. I also asked for a baby cot and got one promptly.
It is very good to see that though seven years have passed since my stay there, Puri Hotel continues to maintain its high standards. It is super clean, safe, and quiet. Though the place was fully booked (with kiasu Singaporeans making up 90% of hotel population), the hotel was quiet, with no screaming kids along the corridor, people jumping up and down upstairs, or people partying all night long as if it was 2012. Breakfast in their restaurant was also charming, with nicely decorated tree canopies above you.
Though some reviewers here complained about their breakfast, I found it good. Though not exceptional, it was as hardly as bad as others make it out to be.
The hotel's location is also prime. It is located in Jonker's Walk with handicrafts, restaurants, shops within walking distance.
There are two complains though: 1) extremely limited parking space for cars, and 2) no elevators. If you drive a car, you will experience problem finding a place to park. The hotel has a small parking lot which closes at 10 pm. You can park along the road, but you have to put a parking ticket for the next morning. The city authorities here are very religious in issuing parking summons.
The lack of stairs means if you get a room on the upper floors and have a lot of luggage, be prepared to huff-and-puff all the way up to your room.
Nevertheless, I strongly recommended this place to all.
