“Very convenient location”
Reviewed March 10, 2013 via mobile

Room was pleasant, big & clean.

Location is good, shopping mall just directly across. About 15 mins walk to Jonker Walk via shopping mall basement.

But hotel lift no direct access to carpark, had to climb stairs.

I visited Melaka sometime in Dec 2012 and we decided to stay in Hotel Equatorial as they are conveniently located. I stayed in their club room as they had a promotion and it was pretty worth it, room is big and comfortable. One big plus is given for the smooth and quick check-in on their club floor, the front desk can get really crowded.

The hotel is located beside the new Palawan shopping mall, there is quite a few selection of fast food if you are hungry at night. Hotel also located within walking distance to quite a few attractions in Melaka, eg Jonker Walk and St Paul Hill.

Room service is not very expensive for a hotel standard, the hor fun (flat rice noodle with gravy) is quite good so if you are hungry at night can give them a try. Pool is rather old and some floors smells rather smokey.

Room Tip: You will get better views on higher floors and remember to ask for non-smoking floors if you are not...

As usual, decided to stay here while i am melaka. The rooms has been renovated, since the last time I was here and the furnishing does looked refreshing. The beds are extremely comfortable and so are the pillows.

Never tried the breakfast nor any restaurants in the hotel so I cannot comment on that. However, we are not far from famous eateries around melaka. Example are ole sayang, cottage spices, etc. there is a big mall right beside the hotel and one can find the usual macdonalds here, not forgetting old town coffee and secret recipe restaurant.

The pool is good and clean too. Good to spend a morning or afternoon chilling out beside the pool reading or plainly just a swim.

Nice, old school colonial hotel. Location is excellent and within a short walk of the Stadhuis and Chinatown. Food outlets are in keeping with this style of hotel. When we visited, the pool was empty and we had it all to ourselves. Good value overall.

We booked 3 premium rooms at 15th floor for last CNY (9-11/2/13). Check in was quick as we were early, however only 2 rooms were ready. They allowed early check in at 12pm. Plus point here. Rooms were clean and well kept. Huge king sized bed with day bed that overlook the Melaka city. It comes with free internet access. Wireless and wired. However on the last day had problem accessing the net in one of the rooms due to some signal interference. The only complaint is that we need to keep logging in the password to access the wireless internet.

The rooms came with RM88 cash back per day which we used to offset breakfast. Breakfast was good with reasonably good choice. However do go early as it can get crowded. We had our reunion inner at Rest House Cafe. A bit pricey but worth it as we were served with a huge range of food. The oyster was fresh. Another dinner was taken at the nyonya restaurant. A good dinner experience here. Love the ambience and the setup of the restaurant.

The pool was nice but didn't manage to find time to try out the gym and sauna. Next trip maybe.

Just a note here. Room 1502 had some wiring problem which caused short circuiting a few times. But this was addressed immediately by the maintenance dept.

All in all, we (6 adults and 3 children) loved our stay here. The lion dance on the 11th morning was fantastic. The children loved it. We will come again.

I normally stay in the Executive/Club room. Loved everything about the room, especially the view on Chinese New Year's day, where there's plenty of fireworks to watch while sipping wine and enjoy the company of family and friends. This hotel always make my stay a happy one. Loved the staffs and everything else, but they lack of parking spaces. When I get bored of hotel food, I just walked out to a plenty more choices, which are cheaper and tastier.

i almost didn't go to this hotel becuase of the reviews but honestly it was fine. Annoyingly it also didn't have wifi for the first coupl eof days and then when it started working it disappeared quite quicklybut he guy who was tasked with fixing it was quite lovely.

We got a room with a balcony - there should be more of these in the world. though i wouldn't reccomend our room (626) entirely as it was in a sort of corner so there was no view when you were on the bed only if you actually went out on the balcony.

The other reviews said the hotel was tatty or grotty. it wasn't. in my opinion the carpet is the best way to rate a hotel's scruffy-pristine rating and this was definitely at the top end of the spectrum. i think it may have been recently refurbished.

Location is good but he map of attractions provided at the hotel is not exactly extensive - if there was internet we could have found a bit more. one day we asked about going to the beach but he concierge told us that it 'wasn't popular' so we stayed home. it rained anyway. it was actually kind of chilly the whole while and we turned off the aircon when we arrived and didn't put it back on again. which is almost unheard of for my sweat fearing husband. there was a nice breeze and as we were over looking the pool (the back of the hotel) there weas no traffic noise - very pleasant.

there were no big plus-points but no real lows either. the bar has a very friendly staff and singers but the breakfast was forgetable. this was a disappointment. Breakfasts in Malaysia are usually exceptional. this one was average, not bad, just ordinary. the rest of the food we had there was fine. When we asked for chicken wings from room service tehy gave them too us even though they weren't on the menu. i thought that was nice.

As i mentioned it was a bit rainy and cold so we didn't swim but the pool looked lovely and there is a space next to is that i think would be lovely for an evening party.
