Hatten Hotel Melaka

Booked this hotel at the last minute cause our previous booking with another one was not satisfactory. The newly-built business class hotel is ideally located beside Mahkota Parade and opposite Dataran Pahlawan megamall and close proximity to Jonker Street. We paid RM$643 for a 3D2N stay (thurs-sat). Personally, i thought it was a considerably reasonable price given the hotel amenities and its location.

Needless to say, my friends and I were attracted by the lavish design of the hotel. A word of caution. Services provided at this hotel are incredibly slow. Take the check-in procedure for example, some of the hotel-stayers waited for a solid 30minutes to an hour and for me? It took me 25 minutes before i get to checked in. Well, certainly complaining doesnt work here. But I must give credits to this Malay lady (unfortunately I have forgotten her name) who served us at the check-in counter, she articulated well and was by far the only one whom i felt rendered excellent service compared to her co-workers.

Upon getting the room cards, we took the lift to the 18th floor where our room was. One thing to note is, you need to insert your room card to the slot in the lift before it takes you to your designated level where your room is. I assume that is one of the security measures to ensure the safety of the residents in the hotels.

I was amazed by the facilities in my room. It was a junior suite which has 2 single beds and 2 LCD tv, a built-in wardrobe, a mini safe, a mini fridge and a fairly spacious bathroom. One of the tvs was placed in front of the beds and the other was installed at the other part of the room with the mini sofa. The room was separated by a panel of glass which i thought was brilliant. It divided the room perfectly. There were drinks and tea bags provided. If you like housekeeping to tidy up the room, simply switch on the housekeeping button and if you prefer no one to knock on your door, turn on the "do not disturb" button near your door. And did i told you that the single bed is big enough to accomodate two average size adults?

Anyway, breakfast was provided at one of the function halls. Typical breakfast with entertainment for the children. And if you like to pay for breakfast for an extra person, it will cost you RM40.60.

I will certainly stay at this hotel during my next trip to Malacca. Overlooking the slow service, the amentities and the location of the hotel definitely attracts me more than another hotels.

We stayed at the hotel over the new year's eve weekend. Despite having two separate counters for Check-ins and outs, the front desk staff allowed queue jumpers to CHECK IN at the CHECK OUT counter whilst there are others waiting in the Check-In line. When this was brought up to the staff, they simply smiled and apologised and did nothing. One lady we met at the check in counter waited over an hour for her room to be ready.
The same problem was encountered at Check out time.
The hotel staff does not appear to have been trained to handle the high volume of guests during peak periods. There was no manager on hand to ensure that the smooth operation at the front counter.

got a coupon deal for this, visited in may 2012

surprisingly ... quite spacious rooms and new interior as well

centrally located, near the river, shopping mall and tourist attractions -- within walking distance

check-in and check-out were reasonably fast, needed to wait (as there were tour groups), slightly longer than usual ... but understandable

overall a worthwhile place for a short stay in malacca -- not a resort relaxing type of holiday though, more suitable for shopping, walking, eating type holiday

not much of view available in the room we were in, higher floor units would be better

breakfast was above average standard in a large restaurant, easy to get seats and food gets replenished

good place to eat would be at jonker street (20mins walk away) -- especially during weekends where there's a night market

most of the attractions are located together along Jalan Merdeka -- the street that this hotel is located on ... so you just need to walk towards the river and the famous dutch square vicinity (across dutch square is jonker street)

Room Tip: request high floor for good view

Was there on Christmas short trip. Impressed with the spacious lobby area with Christmas decoration, crystal lights on the high ceiling, modern design, and waiting area with giant size of sofa. When check in, the room got 2 lcd tv. One in front of the bed and another one lcd tv for relaxing at the sofa and its separate by a glass. I love the bed and the pillows, also the interior design very contemporary. Bathroom was very clean but i think they need to add some more amenities as for standard of 4 star hotel. Overall i'm happy with the environment, even the window only facing the other side of construction work beside the hotel and remember this hotel is in FREE smoking designated area.

Upon check out, i feel upset and have to wait about half an hour for queued even all the reception counter was open but they should have drop off key counter for check out guests. Anyway, the staff was friendly and always smile. Will come again next visit to Melaka.

We have stayed in so many hotels in Malacca before and was extremely happy with this hotel. We stayed in two deluxe rooms with a beautiful sea view. The rooms are new and clean and spacious with 2 TVs per room. The hotel is connected to Pahlawan shopping mall and besides Mahkota Parade. Shopping is so near and convenient. We have stayed at the Holiday Inn twice before. At such a low price for the deluxe room at less then half the price of an equivalent room at the Holiday Inn Malacca, what more can you ask for?
Oh yes. the staff at the front desk were also fast n friendly.
We will definitely stay in this hotel should we go to Malacca again.
Shopping Tip: Best hotel to stay in if you like shopping.

Room Tip: Ask for the sea view deluxe room

Stayed in Hatten over the new year weekend and was very satisfied with the entire experience.
They probably anticipated the huge turnout and had setup additional counters to deal with the check-in. I reached the hotel at about 1400 hours and checked in. Was told that the room was not ready and was given a booking number to check back at 3.30pm. Went back at 4 and room was ready.

I stayed in the Premium deluxe room. Rooms were nice with a huge LCD in front of the bed and a smaller LCD in the lounge area. Clean, spacious and brand new rooms. Beds were also firm and pillows were comfy. Air-con thermostat was also working and responsive. We liked the fact that it came with a shower (rain shower) instead of a bathtub, hence making the bathroom very spacious.

Location was great. Plenty of carpark lots available and they had security on constant patrol. The hotel/square is linked via covered walkway to Dataran Palawan as well as Mahkota Parade. Some shops in Hatten Square was not open yet but i do see that the shops are going to open soon so there is no lack of food if you get hungry.

Breakfast was okay, with good variety, though there is not much variation throughout the 3 days of stay. No issue of queue to enter the restaurant but we always eat early at around 7.30am, so we can see the crowd starting to build-up at about 8am, by which we are already done.

Overall, i would recommend visitors to stay here while the hotel is still spanking new, before it falls into dis-repair like most Malaysian hotels.

Saw many unpleasant comment by fellow reviewer indicated that the check-in was really bad and the service by the front officer was poor.

Start with hesitation when i wanted to book this hotel. We have been visiting Melaka for many times and stay in different hotels, irregardless the bad comment, we would like to try it out.

*Check-in and Check out
Is a New Year Eve and School Holiday, we knew it gonna be full of people checking-in for sure. Upon arriving melaka town, we decided to go to Jonker Street to have our lunch first follow by a walk at Jonker Street before we check in at 5pm. As we are driving, there is not a problem for us to leave our luggage in the car.
The check-in was pretty prompt on that time and we just waited for less than 5 minutes.

*Hotel and Room
We booked a Deluxe Suite facing sea view at Level 17. Huge room and king size bed. Clean and confort. Awesome is the word for this!
Great privacy as we barely hear noises from corridor.
Requested for a extra towel next day and it arrive within 5 minutes. (Surprise)

*Location
Excellent location as this hotel is just located in the centre of shopping mall. Pahlawan mall is just downstairs while Mahkota Parade is just beside (Less than 5 minutes walking distance).

*Swimming Pool
Could be better. Not a big pool but packed with people and kids. Understandable as this is a holiday season.

*Car Park
This is a minus point of this hotel for sure.
There are only 2 service lifts to carpark which will really makes you impatient when you want to go to the carpark during peak hour like check out time.

Room Tip: Try not to drive out as Melaka is pretty bad on the traffic. Massive jam at most of the roads!
