“Worn out, tired hotel”
Reviewed June 9, 2013 via mobile

Booked this hotel via Living Social site, got it for half the price for a Deluxe Riverview room.
Did not expect much of the hotel however it is really old, dated and tired looking. The entrance was drab and lobby was badly lit. Room was dark, dirty and bathroom amenities were very minimal (no shower cap). Bed sheet felt thin and cheap, so were the towels. Bathroom looked like that in the motel, cold and dirty.
Buffet breakfast was very poor as well as the selection was very minimal. Hotel was located further off the main attraction, and noisy throughout the night.
The only pro was that it was located next to the river so the view was quite nice.We took the river cruise which came with the package and had a good time as pick up point was at the hotel itself. We just hop into the boat.
Also, the front desk officer Halim was very polite and helpful.
Overall, we did not enjoy our stay here and would not have booked it if it was not for the online offer. Sad to say we will not return here unless the hotel goes through a major refurbishment.

Great customer service - Front Desk was excellent at check in and check out.
Lobby - average. Does not carry the brand image..
Basic hotel room amenities, nothing to shout about. All in the room was in working order..requested for a connecting room but only next to each other..
If you need to request anything from Housekeeping, make sure it is before 11pm as they have gone home and will be back at 7am the next day? Which is very funny for the Best Western brand..
No swimming pool
Anyways, we were out the whole day for the 3D/2N's stay and only used the room to sleep and shower, which is why it is acceptable for us..
Location - next to the river and was about 10 minutes walk to Jonkers and the tourist spot.

If I could give this hotel a negative score I would. I arrived at this hotel in the early hours of the morning only to be shown not one, but two equally dirty looking rooms with grotty mouldy bath rooms, broken shower screens, floors that had not been mopped and hair from the previous occupant on the toilet seat. The furnishings were long past their use by date. The bed linen was worn and stained and the valance around the bottom of the bed covered in dirt and greasy stains. The public areas of the hotel were also grimy and seroisly doubt that any surface in the building has been cleaned in a long time. The carpets look they have been sourced from the local dump and rolled out on the floor. The no somking sign on my floor was decoration only, judging by the haze and bad smell wafting down the corridor and the ash tray in front of the lift it is never enforced.

Breakfast was provided with my room booking and I was looking forward to a good meal before going out exploring. Unfortunately all the hot foods were cold, the bacon was steamed instead of grilled, and the baked beans were looking grey (possibly from being reheated from the day before)

After making a complaint about the state of my room on check in, I was promised that it would be cleaned properly while I was out during the day. When I returned after dinner the bed had not been made and nothing had been cleaned. I called reception to let them know and got a staff member with limited english language skills who told me that house keeping had left for the day and nothing could be done.

Don't ever stay here. If you're unfortunate enough to have a booking you cannot cancel the hotel is not branded with Best Western Hotel logo and it is known locally as the Wana Riverside Hotel.

There is a lot of noise from other guests and loud music at night which made it difficult to sleep.

Room Tip: book another hotel, there are no good rooms here

This hotel is right next to the river. You can walk along the river or jog in the morning. If you wish, you can purchase river cruise tickets from the hotel.

We only had breakfast in the hotel. Its very Malaysian (read spicy/hot).

Only problem we had was the loud music from another official function on the other side of the river. Yes - its far on the other side but you can hear the music even where we are high up in our rooms and it goes on until after midnight.

The hotel is located right along the Melaka River and has its own river cruise pick-ups at 10am, 3pm and 8pm, but be sure to book your tickets early at the hotel reception. It's also convenient to walk along the river banks to get to the main historical areas of Stadthuys and Jonker Street. It'll probably take about 20 mins. The hotel room was just OK although it must be said that lightings and plumbing did all work. However, the aircon control didn't seem to work as it was pretty chilly whether at 10 or 25 and worse still they don't have blankets for extra beddings - they will send you several bedsheets instead. Get the higher river facing rooms and you'll get a free view of the fireworks that are set off after the sound and lights show at the Padang Pahlawan, and if you're lucky, you'll be able to catch large cruise ships entering the Straits of Melaka. The breakfast buffet was nothing to shout about by Malaysian standards, though they did have fresh milk and low fat milk for cereals (honey stars, coco crunch and corn flakes). Instead I would suggest that you walk out to the main road, turn right and look for an Indian banana leave restaurant, a few doors away that serves awesome thosai and roti canai with what my kids called "grandma's fish curry" and great teh tarik (pulling tea - a must have when in Malaysia) and local coffee.

Nothing to complain about, but the standard is a bit lower than the usual Best Western standard (the price as well, to be honest). However, it is fairly clean and at walking distance from the main attractions; breakfast matches the usual BW standard.

Room Tip: The riverside rooms are (just a bit) more expensive but more quiet than the other rooms, which are m...

Stayed here for a weekend break from JB. Hotel position is really good with great views of the river and Jonka Street in the distance. Check in was very good, albeit no porter to take you bags to your room. Rooms are a little bit tired and sparce , could do with sprucing up and perhaps have a picture or two of Melaka on the walls. Bathroom was adequate with all the necessary toiletries. Breakfast on our 1st night was good, fair selection of both western and oriental food. However the same could not be said for our 2nd night. We had to leave early for a flight to catch, so we needed breakfast early. Room literature states that breakfast starts at 6.30am. We arrived at 6.40 to find nothing had been set up. No tea, coffee, juice, toast, eggs etc. Not impressed. Took this issue up at check in and was told to email the manager. I have since emailed Best Western Directly and 8 days later have still not received a response. It's a shame, good hotel, good location but with very poor customer relations.
