“Can't go to Melaka without eating here!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 27, 2012

Do yourself a favour and have at least one meal here. Consistently the best restaurant service we receive in Malaysia for this style of restaurant. All the waiting staff deserve the applause but the best meal on the menu is the Spicy Morrocan Lamb - chef take a bow! 8 of our party of 10 order ed this and no disappointments. Also the massive parmesan cheese wheel will delight any cheese lover. All the girls give the loos the double thumbs up!

“nice setting, interesting menu, but needs to improve”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 18, 2012

We had lunch here and were rather disappointed. Chicken rendang had a really nice sauce but the chicken itself was almost entirely bone - it needs to be better than this for 30 ringit, when you get a wonderfully large portion of tandoori chicken for 7 ringit at Pak Putra, 5 minutes' walk away. The grilled red snapper was also rather disappointing, a not very large piece of fish swimming in a huge oily broth.

“Amazing food n service”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 12, 2012

Went for a birthday dinner and throughout March 2012, every friday, they add a buffet to the menu list. March is all you can eat Roast Lamb and unlimited salads. I'd drive from KL to Malacca just for this! plus, one of the few places that does Steak tartare and my husband loved it. Service was great, discreet but knowledgeable. Location is relaxing and just round the corner of Jonker. Lovely place.

“Upper scale restaurant look and feel, food only average”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 20, 2012

The service was very friendly, and sitting by the river is very nice.

The food was unfortunatelly only average. It lacked the spices from the region, I felt like this is the type of asian food you get in Europe. The red snapper was very spicy, not very fresh and slightly dry. The price was expensive 30 RM. The stir fried vegetable dish was ok, but it was something I could have done.

I understand if you go here when you are staying at the Casa del Rio hotel and you are short on time, but otherwise do go and explore the city! For example, the Riverine restaurant was only 5 minutes walk, much cheaper and more authentic and same river view.

“A new place in Melaka for fine dining”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 16, 2012

Went to The River Grill as nearby Harper's was closed that night. They are both next to Melaka River but at the moment, Harper's has the better views. There were ongoing construction works on the other side of the river from The River Grill, perhaps to create more outdoor commercial and dining outlets which would certainly enliven the view and atmosphere in the future.

The Moroccan lamb was full of interesting flavours and definitely worth a try. The chicken roulade was good too. Portions were small but quite filling. The desserts we had such as the sticky date pudding and chocolate mousse-cake were OK but not too outstanding or memorable.

Nice place for fine dining. Staff were attentive and friendly. However, there were too many mosquitoes, even in the indoor dining area!
