“A must for Malacca!”
Reviewed July 18, 2014

We visited Aunty Lee restaurant with booking in advance. The food here is very delicious and you can try the authentic taste of nyonya cuisine.

Having travelled around Asia and ate most of Asian cuisine, the food of Aunty Lee brought me surprise and gave me great exposure of this traditional Malaysian cuisine.

All dishes come in portion small/ medium/ large, so only two of us have tried 5 hot dishes plus dessert.

Highly recommend the signature fish, butter prawn and cincalok omelette.

Reservation is a must.

Dear Minion326,

Thank you ever so much for taking your time to share your experience during your visit here.

In fact, all our items on our menu is selected based on the popularity, as such some items which are not popular has been removed to allow us to serve our customers better.

Yes! Our Cincalok Omelette is a favourite indeed, as with our Udang Goreng Assam, which may come about as buttery although we really do not use any butter. The Goreng Assam prawn is done with Aunty Lee's spices as well as fresh Tamarind.

We are more than happy that as a guest in Malaysia, especially Melaka that you can take back sweet memories of our country and of course..... our Nyonya cuisine experience!

Sincerely
The Management and Staff of Aunty Lee's Restaurant

My comment is just simple, come and try, you will never regret! Ask the boss for the recommended dishes. The Chili Fried Fish was superb.

“Sometimes 5 stars isn’t enough”
Reviewed June 30, 2014

On our only night in Melaka we were looking for some genuine Peranakan Nyonya food. We had been recommended a few places by friends but my partner found a place listed on Trip Advisor called Aunty Lee that looked good. It was relatively close by to where we were staying so we decided to go there. After a harrowing walk down the street, we finally arrived, where Tony the owner took us to a table. We told him we wanted authentic local food. What he brought out after that can only be described as outstanding. Pineapple, Mango & King Prawn Laksa, an Okra salad (garnished with a delicious onion like sweet sauce (so glad we didn’t order the usual greens with oyster sauce!), Egg Salt & Pepper Squid, fried rice for two, and my personal favourite… the Chilli Garum Fish (which on the night was the Golden Snapper variety). I wasn’t going to order this dish as I thought by the name it would be too hot, but instead you tasted the depth of flavor in the chilli and it only had a mild kick. Tony’s explanation to accompany each dish enriched the experience for us, and we finished up with the local Chendol dessert, complete with a bowl of palm sugar syrup for us to administer ourselves. My partner who normally doesn’t eat dessert was blown away by this, and afterwards Tony took us out the back to show us some of the produce he grows including the leaf that the Chendool extracts its colour and flour like flavor from. What an experience! I can’t guarantee that anyone who is visiting Aunty Lee’s on any other night would receive the same level of service that we did on that Monday night. What I can guarantee is that you will find the food exceptional and very well priced as we did. Thanks again Tony… we are already discussing the next trip which we think will be at least two weeks in Melaka alone, and will be sure to visit again.

Dear JackDrum6,

Thank you for reviewing us on Trip Advisor.

Its not every day that we get a customer who gets excited that there is actually a fruit named after him! It is also always easier for us to accommodate our customers on a relaxing weekday, as in your day of visit, hence we could prepare your fried rice, which is not in our menu.

Oh yes! The Kerabu timun, which you described as a laksa, did get me thinking for a while!

It really means a lot to us when we have customers leaving with a lasting impression and of course, a satisfied and full stomach!

We look forward to your next visit, and wish it will be sooner than later!

Sincerely

“Good Food !”
Reviewed June 23, 2014

Was recommended by my brother to MUST try the Nonya food whenever in Malacca. So on Thursday 20th June, did drove up for the week-end trip with the family of 4 . Intended to have our lunch but my waze gps guide drop short of giving the exact location and did stopped to ask a local, he did not gave proper direction.. so missed the lunch and have to settle for chicken rice at Jonkers street.

However determined and ask Holiday Inn staff where we were staying for direction... and drove there again and finally and located the resturant around 1845hrs ... no crowd problem on a week day!

Thanks Tony for the excellent service and tips on the recommended food to trip on our first visit... We like the the chilli, it was really garang and very good tasting food. No MSG enhanced favour that you feel very thirsty after effect.

Its highlight of our trip and worth the drive from Singapore ...... who knows we might just drive up to Malacca for lunch and back home again ...

Hey Tomy . ... hope your venture to bring this excellet food closer to us .. a dream come true ... save the driving for us yah !

Dear Sembahwang TanKL

Thank you for your review!

What fun would it be if you did not make that 2 hour drive to Melaka and enjoy the Chendol right after a nice lunch here at Aunty Lee's? :)

Thanks for not giving up on us despite not having the right directions on WAZE. (we have been getting many feedback that customers who use WAZE ended up losing their way. Here, we would like to point out to all our customers that we can be located on google maps/Garmin/MalSingMaps)

We are also pleased to announce that we have already begun to prepare our products (curry powder/cili garam and sambal belacan) for approval with the relevant authorities in preparation for export.

So look out for our future announcements on where to get your favourite curry powder and belacan!

Sincerely

“Reservation is a Must”
Reviewed June 22, 2014

This was one of two well known Peranakan restaurants we ate at. Both are good. Aunty Lee is much better. It is a really small restaurant, so reservation is a must. The service provided by the manager Tony was fantastic - from the reservation, to calling to say we are late , to providing directions, to having the kids meal ready as we arrive to recommending the best dishes for the adults. He was also honest that the restaurant was no longer run by Aunty Lee, but the food is Aunty Lee approved (she said "close enough"). Ask him about Aunty Lee for the full story.

The meal was great, but I cannot remember the dishes names. But we had the best Cendol we tried in Malacca there. Unlike the other places, the gula malaka was served in a separate cup and you can add as much or as little as you want. I think their gula malaka is the most fragrant out of all the other Cendol places we tried.

Dear Kenneth L

We do encourage all our customers to make their reservations, in order for us to serve you all better.

It makes it easier for us to serve our customers especially those with young children when they give us enough time to prepare, , as in your case. We are happy that you were served accordingly despite coming on a very busy weekend.

Unfortunately, Aunty Lee has taken ill and is no longer able to run the restaurant as before.
At present, her daughter Jasmine, who is still a partner of the restaurant is taking time off to see to Aunty's needs, and both Chef Anthony and Tony are overseeing the operations of the restaurant.

Aunty's recipes are still a closely guarded family secret! And the preparation of each item is still being done with care in the same manner that Aunty has taught us to!

We have reopened since 15 April 2014 and we are more than honoured with the many favourable reviews we have been getting.

We will endeavour to do our best to keep the high standards set by Aunty herself and hope that our customers continue to give us a chance to serve them.

Sincerely
The Management & Staff of
