We stayed for three nights in the girls dorm. The staff were very helpful and friendly (although not always around). The location of the hostel was great and good value for money but the rooms definitely didn't look like they did on the hostel website and could do with a few improvements. We also found evidence of mice (including fresh droppings) upstairs in the dorm. Overall it was OK.

I have stayed there with 3 of my girlfriends from 27-29 Aug 2012. Double room for two girls.
Pros:
Very close to the historical attractions in Malacca. Walking distance.
Home taxi available to fetch you from Malacca Central to the hotel. RM15 per trip.
Clean cooling air-cond, comfortable mattress and nice blanket
Hanger available for hanging clothes and towels.
Laundry service too. RM4 for 1kg.
Bicycle rent

Cons:
Shared bathroom. For rich spoilt girls, they may not like it. Could have done something to make the bathroom a bit bigger and wider.
Slippers for bathroom use should be considered.

PS: It's a youth hostel, however, you can't expect much...:)

The hostel has everything good that mentioned by previous reviewers. And also everything bad that they mentioned too. Many and many little things that they missed out, which they will definitely find out if they do stay one night there by themselves.

Uncovered toilet tissues, which I can't even find one in the bathroom I used as it is taken by the bathroom next to it because their tissue roll has wet.
Leaking water from the bathroom and at the top floor, raining water splash-in to the washing/bathroom area as it's open air style. I appreciate the sun light but simple slipper will solve the problem.

Most unacceptable is the staff smoking at ground floor near kitchen/reception area. Although ground floor is kind of open air with windows and doors open, but gosh, smoker doesn't realize the smoke will spread all over the ground floor common area? No offense, but I think this is not a way to welcome your guest.

All in all, I just love the room, with comfortable bed and a little space to read and chit-chat with friend.

Room Tip: Sacrifice the sun light from the room with window nearest to the street, noisy at night as you can h...

pros:
Hostel is strategically located to main attractions (jonker street, capital stay celup) within walking distance.
budget friendly, cost us around RM50 per double bed room per night.
Nicely decorated, room is furnish with sofa and mini table (notice it in all other rooms except ours)
bed is on the loft in the same room (not so convenient at times, but it was fresh and fun for us)
facilitated with wifi and specially appreciated the water dispenser.

cons:
combined shower and toilet which is quite small. wall is stained which looks kinda dirty.
toilet paper is wet after previous person took their shower because it was not covered.
floor next to the sink where the water dispenser is located is soaked in water from the shower
a lot of the times. so you had to stand in pool of water to refill your drink. very uncomfortable...
Our room was next to the street so it's noisy with traffic from the street and live band singing until 1am ++. Also can hear noise from other room due to the thin walls (but still acceptable unless you get a noisy neighbour)

Room Tip: Avoid room facing the main road, should be quieter

I was travelling alone, and this is a PERFECT place to stay if you are on your own or with a few friends. It is centered around tons of sights that are really easy to get to and well within walking distance. The staff are very friendly, and will help with any questions or concerns you may have.
The rooms are pretty cool, with the loft bunk up top, so A++ on creativity and use of space. Like I said I was alone, so there was plenty of room for myself and all my stuff. Its kept quite clean. The bathrooms are on the small side, but for what they a meant for it's fine. They do have hot water as weewll which is nice. Rooms come with air con, a little sitting area, mirror, table and trash can. All in all a very nice place to stay, and I am thankful I found it.

Room Tip: I had a room right beside bunga raya, and The Discovery Cafe has karaoke at night, which is quite lo...

Pros:
An interesting place to stay in. I like the 2 storey concept of the room. Fun and quirky! The rooms are clean and comfortable albeit a bit small. Its within walking distance from the major historical and attraction sites such as Jonker street and the church. Lots of good eateries around as well. Cheap rooms (paid about rm60 for a night in 1 room).

Cons:
Bathrooms and toilets are on a shared basis. The toilets + shower areas are really really cramped. You can hardly move when you are inside. Cleanliness of the toilets need to be improved as well. The walls of the room are thin and you can literally hear people's conversation if they decide to talk in the corridor. The lock for the room doors are not very secure either.

Conclusion:
Still a worthwhile place to stay for a night or two. Wont recommend it if you are planning to stay there for an entire week unless you are alright with staying in a small room.

My girlfriend and I stayed here after having stayed at 'Sayang Sayang'. There were no rooms available for the rest of our trip at the original so we moved to this one expecting more of the same but newer. It is newer, and is clean and safe, however it seems that in the process of opening a 2nd hostel they have forgotten alot of the little things. Also having stayed in the other this one feels a little like there was some 'cutting of corners' to open this one and the price is slightly higher than the first one.
The rooms and the shower cubicles are smaller (and there are less of them, although there is one, double shower room downstairs which is lovely and huge, but you have to leave the hostel area and walk past the bar downstairs to get to it.)
The little things they have thought of in the original, such as slippers outside each shower/toilet cubicle and the cover over the tissue to keep it dry from the shower, have not been brought to this place which is a real shame. Also the 'reception' (a desk at the top of the stairs leading up from the Sayang Sayang cafe/bar place) is often left empty and you have to search for a member of staff, although saying that, the staff are lovely when you do find them! The cafe/bar place downstairs is a pain as it is either busy at night, and therefor very loud and you cant sleep, or if it is not, then the staff are in there watching tv at full volume and shouting so you still cant sleep! Noise was a big problem here, the walls are thin, as they are in many budget places, but it becomes a big problem with the aforementioned happening every night and if you throw in some student groups shouting and screaming until 3am (as they did when we stayed) then you have a real problem.
All this being said, the place IS clean, safe and the staff are lovely. If I return to Melaka I wont choose to stay here, but i wouldnt be furious if i was forced too, and if I hadnt stayed in their original 'Sayang Sayang' I might not have been so disappointed with this one.
The location is good, melaka is small enough to walk around and this place is just up the road from Chinatown, the heart of Melaka.
