“Restoran Peranakan”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 27, 2012

You will not see any sign board named "Peranakan House" but "Restoran Peranakan" outside the main entrance.

I must say the Peranakan interior of this restaurant is really charming. I feel comfortable at the waiting area because it is spacious and cooling with fan operating overhead. The furnitures at the waiting area are antique, there is even a handcrafted marriage carriage. You will likely see people busy taking pictures while waiting to dine inside.

We ordered ayam buah keluak, Nyonya chap chye and taufu Peranakan..costa out 27 ringgit. I think it is quite reasonably charged. The ayam buah keluak is quite ok but nothing too special. The other 2 dishes taste quite bland. Maybe, those are not their specialities.

Not sure if I will be back again because I find it difficult to walk under the afternoon sun to this restaurant. No proper pavement along the stretch of shop houses and need to be careful of the traffic and avoiding those cars that parked outside the shop fronts and open drain.

“Not bad, but not as good as I expected it to be”

The chicken pong teh is very good, but the chicken buah keluak is not as good as those in Singapore. Kangkong also is average.

“Lovely decor, so-so food, beware of mosquitoes!”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 10, 2012

The place was really decorated very nicely, in true Peranakan style. Lots of picture spots inside the restaurant!
However, food was really very so-so. Felt that many of the dishes were pretty bland. Achar was good, chinchalok omelette was great.. the rest generally was just alright. Even the chendol was just okay.
One thing which really pissed us off was that the service staff explained they had a VIP/function ongoing in the main dining area and they ushered us to a table way behind - almost reaching the kitchen. 7 of us sat down, waited for lunch and became a feast to the mosquitoes breeding in the restaurant! We couldn't eat in peace, and came out with multiple bites all over our bodies. When we went out, we saw many other diners in the main hall eating. What happened to the VIP/function we were being told of?!
It was a bad experience for us. Never going back again.

Hearty lunch we had. We ordered the Peranakan Toufu, Ayam Pong Teh (My favourite of the three) and Fish Assam Pedas, all in small portions for two people. (Rice was free flow!) All that plus two beers cost about RM47, which I thought was not too shabby for a restaurant.

The food is great and tasty. Reasonable priced. Service normal, the deco is very infomative.
Cendol is ok, recommend to try the one opposite this shop
