I stayed at Jalan Jalan 2 which is the sister property to this one on the same street a few doors up and beside the art shop. I really recommend it. It had a very chilled out vibe just like the rest of Melaka and nice friendly sociable staff. I stayed in a 6 bed dorm which was a bargain. It was a great place to meet other travellers, they have a nice communal area with large sofas and decent wifi. Most evenings we all went out to dinner together which was a really nice touch.

We have a wonderful stay in this simple and retro home stay. It is clean and the location is good, near to the night market but not bustling. Simply love our tiny but comfy room with a big glass window. It was so relaxing~ I will definitely come back again. =)

p/s: Thank you Sam, we have tried the cake...It is really so-so only...nothing special~ =p

Melaka is a nice city, many good food. So as Jalan Jalan, friendly staff, cozy place, very clean, simple yet everything you need. Stayed in single fan room but still get to meet other travellers in the lobby. Thanks Jalan Jalan, you made my last stop in Malaisie unforgetable...

A nice welcome at the door by the friendly staff and simple, but ok and big, dorm room with 10 beds. Each bed got a fan but there were no mosquito nets and it was noisy from downstairs/neighbours at night. And although we didn't join in on any activities, it seemed the staff organise days out for anyone who wants to join. I very much liked the outdoorsy bathrooms in the garden too!

Stayed in dorm (10 beds) for three nights. It's very basic but clean. Some problems with noise from street, mosque and room mates and mosqitos at night.

The best with Jalan Jalan is the staff, Sam and Lee. Really friendly guys who takes the guest out for dinner every night. Good way to get to know your room mates. Don't miss the nearby jazzbar Shantaram (9 pm to 2 am). Cheap beer, friendly owner and you meet interesting locals and tourist.

I stayed 3 nights at Jalan-Jalan at the red door house. I stayed in the air-conditioned dorm which was cheap but very cramped. Probably the fan dorm is more spacious and still cool enough.
The place was great though, with free wifi, computers for old-fashioned internet access, lockers in the rooms, free tea and coffee, comfy couches (at the red house), bikes to use for the duration of your stay for just RM5, and the infamous dinner club (a great way to meet new people and try out different restaurants around Melaka), plus a cheap laundry.
The thing that makes Jalan-Jalan so great though is the friendliness of the staff and the way they make everyone feel welcome. This leads to a friendly and welcoming vibe among the travellers too.
Recommended. Be careful though, you'll probably stay longer than you planned. Most people do :)

There is a lot of good about this place: super friendly (and helpful) staff, nice welcoming foyer, good security, cheap bike rental and clean rooms. My only complaint is the room that we stayed in had no A/C and the mosquito nets (which were necessary) really kept your body heat in and any relief of the fan out. Also the bunk bed would rock like a boat anytime me or my travel buddy would move which made for a difficult sleep.

Apparently the dorm room (which is actually down the street) has A/C, so I would probably choose to stay there if I were to return to Melaka.
