Cafe 1511 was a really good place to stay! It's next to the Heritage Museum, which is a private museum where the Baba-Nonya family lived till 1985. Cafe 1511, the rooms are very clean with very nice decor and the staff are friendly and helpful. I would definitely recommend it to anyone visiting Melaka.

We stayed here for 2 nights back in November. This was the first place we stayed in Asia having landed in Singapore and gone directly through to Melaka. For the price I had quite low expectations but it really was a joy. A lovely little place with friendly and helpful staff and the breakfast was one of the best of our two month trip around Asia.

The room itself didn't have a window which was the only downside. But so long as that is not a requirement you should enjoy this place a lot. Location is also excellent, right in the middle of China Town, but just far enough away from the main action so as it's not too noisy.

Thoroughly recommended!

PG (PG and Colin are the hosts/owners of the place) was so lovely - when I booked with her online, she'd already advised us on a good place where I could park the car once i came (a short distance from the building).
Unfortunately, we missed the carpark and decided to unload the luggage first. Upon realising that we'd just been administered a RM30 fine earlier (we parked along the road during our lunch stop), she advised that we leave the car as it is, just opposite the building, so that we didn't need to park it at the carpark -save the walking and the extra parking fee, reason being, as she explained, that parking officials will not administer more than one fine per day on the same car.
The next day, she also advised where to go to pay the fine (MBMB) so that it will be 50% discounted. We ended up paying RM15 for a whole day's parking right outside Cafe 1511, and we even came back with a souvenir of a calendar, courtesy of MBMB.
She was very thoughtful - we had just asked here to direct us to a nearby place to pay the fine but she went beyond that and helped us make a savings! The experience at MBMB (I suspect like Traffic Police HQ at Malacca) was also very pleasant.

The two ladies who served us breakfast were also very friendly, as was Colin, who, on the night we stayed, switched on the fan at the TV area for us. I was murmuring about mosquito bites about 10min into the show (DVD selection available)... Not sure if he'd heard me and hubbie but the place was actually cool enough so we didn't think of switching on the fan, but he walked past and switched it on for us. This was a tiny gesture by itself but it really worked! , and we were touched by the sincerity and genuine concern.

The room was cool, clean and airy ,and the beds comfortable. We didn't even really need the air-con provided, we napped in the afternoon without it, though at night we did use it. The bathrooms were clean and always available as well. We also had coffee at the little refreshments area, and used the free internet there to read on our travel plans the next day. The whole building was interesting in itself with its dark wooden floors, paintings, small fish pond.... very peaceful and quaint.

All in all, we had a great time there - it's SUPER value for money - in fact, you can't put a monetary value for genuine friendliness. I would recommend this place anytime.

Cafe 1511 is a fantastic find in Melaka. It's right in the heart of Chinatown. The guesthouse itself is the servants' quarters of what is now the Baba Nonya museum so you get a real sense of staying in a historical building. It's interesting to do the tour of the Baba Nonya museum to see the similarities between the 2 halves.

The room was fairly small but that was fine for us. There are 3 shared bathrooms for 4 rooms so we never had to wait. The bathrooms, and in fact the whole guesthouse, is spotless. You have to take your shoes off to go upstairs to the rooms.

The rooms are up a fairly steep staircase so bear that in mind if you have a lot of luggage or find stairs difficult.

There's also free wifi and free computers to use. Breakfast was included and you could pick from Western food or local. The mee goreng was just amazing!

On arriving (late) we were whisked away by Colin to a special Tandoori cafe. The location is fantastic, right in the centre of the Heritage area and a brand new Fish Spa has opened next door - if you haven't tried this it's a must...
The rooms were incredibly clean, as were the bathroom facilities. The airconditioning was fantastic and although the rooms are quite small it didn't really matter. Free use of high speed internet thrown in was a real bonus. The breakfast is basic and I would reccomend sticking to the local breakfast and buying a coffee. One street away from Jonker Street and just around the corner from Me and Mrs Jones bar.
Thank you to Colin and staff for a perfect stay in Melaka - also, don't forget to go to the Capital Satay for dinner - a true experience.

Just spend trhee nights here with my girlfriend. Cafe 1511 is located very conveniently in the old town richt in the middel of the world heritage. The owner Colin and his wife are very friendly. De B&B is a gem with only four rooms (and three bathrooms). Nice art on the walls. Colin can advise you on things to see and do and we even could borrow his car to see the surroundings!
Around the corner there's lounge/club/bar/restaurant eleven and also the geographer, the most popular places to have a drink in Melaka. Also the Pak Putra tandoori place around the corner is great and the chinese restaurant Bei Zan is magnificent. The best spa is opposite of the ticket sales booth at the rivercruise (with the fish that nibble on your feet). On the other side of the street is Harper's restaurant wich i don't recommend. Very expensisve and very small meals.
In the outskirts there's noting much to see so don't take a hotel there, stay in the old town in an affordable hostel like cafe 1511 (a double room for 80 ringitt including breakfast) . The rooms are small but very clean and the beds are good. Take earplugs if traffic noise bothers you and ask for a room with a window. Furthermore there's free wifi. In the room there's coffee making facility. The food is great. Thumbs up for Colin, his wife and the two girls that work there.
