This place is split in 2, there are rooms located at the bar/cafe itself where you will check in but there is also a guesthouse over the road which is under new management, we stayed in the guesthouse.

The guesthouse itself is one of the cleanest I have stayed in whilst travelling South East Asia during the past 3 months. The bathrooms are immaculate, this is always a bonus after a long bus journey. The rooms are spotless and the bedsheets are clean and the whole place smells lovely, this is a rarity compared to some of the places we have stayed. Alan, the new manager of the guesthouse is a great individual, he is willing to help if you need it, he can provide advice (having spent the last 25/26 years travelling the world) and he has a story or 2 to tell. One thing I would suggest is a chill out zone, we often found ourselves in the corridor having 20 minute conversations with other guests, if there was a room dedicated as an area to chill, speak, a simple sofa and a couple of bean bags would be great. This way travellers can bond, chat and get to know each other and would probably stay longer. I think this would really make a difference. Free drinks like tea/coffee or squash would be an additional bonus

Overall Discovery is great place to stay when visiting Melacca, it is close to China town, Jonker Street, Little India and only 10 minute walk to the Mega Mall which has a huge varity of things to entertain you.

Great to meet you Alan, Bob and Wendy you made our stay great and really looked after us before our journey onto Aus.

Hope to visit again soon :)

Room Tip: The A/C dorm has A/C from 10pm to 6am so take this into account if you plan on being in bed all day, there are also fans for when it isn't on though.

I only stayed 2 nights but could have happily stayed a week or two because it is easy to function for the needs of long term living if you need. A big plus point is how clean it is & how important it is to Alan, who has been adjusting things to really be catering for travellers & their needs. There is a pride in the cleanliness & organisation of guesthouse.
The sheets are proper good quality cotton, very nice & no bugs or mozzies :)
April 2013 freshly painted & really clean toilets & showers.
Wifi was not great & it could do with a social common room to sit & use computers, read, chat & drink tea.
Basic breakfast is included & you sit outside to eat it but you need to pop over the shop across road & can get nice little tub of kaya at cheap price, to put on your toast!

No the cheapest and safest place to stay but really cheap. had to walk back alleys to enter the guest house. room is really small and cleanliness is just average. so i the shared bathrooms. good for backpackers who dont mind noisy neighbours coming back to their rooms drunk and banging on doors or foreign workers with a towel around their waist, brushing their teeth at the common basin

If you need a base camp in Malaysia - this is the place you are looking. Super clean, fresh, very friendly manager & legendary Alan, how will be your carefull host. But I hope after some time in Discovery will be a common place for playing chess, reading books & drinking tea. But even today it is the best place.

My pal and I arrived at 7am and the owner was kind enough to let us check in right then and there to allow us time to sleep. We slept in the eight person dorm in the Guest House across the street which is currently be updated by Alan, an amazing staffer at Discovery. The room was quiet, the bathrooms clean with HOT water, and Alan gave us tips on where to find ginger coffee and great Indian food. I like this place so much that I would book my mom a room here!
