First of all we found the accommodation online and booked in, we thought it was excellent value for money and a great place for some R&R during a hectic schedule travelling around India.
We arrived in the middle of the night as our train was delayed by around 5 hours, we did alert the hotel but it was all locked up, had it not been for the security guard spotting us we would have been stranded until the morning. He let us into a lodge after a discussion with someone else, they had no record of our booking so it was a bit of a hassle at 3am.
Not wanting this to deter us we forgot about this episode and discarded it has typical 'Indian service' when we woke up we were really happy with the location, right on a quiet and clean beach. We did however soon realise it was the end of the season in Agonda and there was only a couple of small lodgings and one restaurant open, again not so much of an issue for us as we were just after a quiet few days.
The accommodation is basically just a large garden shed with a mattress and a fan in it, it contains heat easily so it can be extremely hot especially as it's 38 outside most days in May. It took 3 days for any of the staff to acknowledge us staying there aside from ordering drinks form the bar.
We had a couple of issues with other guests during our stay, there was a large party of Indian men staying at the resort and they were the sole focus of the accommodation (understandably.) However they left an incredible amount of mess, bottles and litter everywhere they went and with the high winds it spread all around the small accommodation area, there was no attempt to clear it by the staff for over 24 hours and it really deterred us from staying around there during the day and night. One particular incident they had left lots of litter on the beach area and it was so bad we couldn't even stay around that area even though no one was there is was still disgusting, we had cleared some litter up ourselves but had no where to put it (no bins anywhere)
Once these guests left it was a much more pleasant place to stay without getting too hung up on that, we could enjoy the paradisaical beach and sunsets, on Sundays there is a great buzz around the beach as many people use the bottom end of it to relax with friends and family.
Having had our faith restored we were only to have it tarnished again as we were leaving, the security guard had gotten drunk overnight and was hassling the staff and more so the guests. He blurted our sexist and racist remarks and begged us for tips continually until we left, uttering 'this is bad, I guarded you' we may have thought twice had he not disgraced himself. There was little attempt to make him go away and even when he did he returned a couple of minutes later to continue. He accused another guest of stealing something (unknown object) which nearly turned into a heated situation.
We really enjoyed staying here aside from the above issues and would return, I think if you are a foreign tourist the staff are not as helpful, but if you;re happy looking after yourself then you will be fine. We moved on to Palolem for 4 more days and had a great time there too and managed to leave about 2 days before the rains started, good timing! The accommodation at Tina Beach Resort is excellent value for the location you get, but if you're planning to go in April-June, hire a scooter to get around to nearby towns to entertain yourself.
