“The best chill-out place in Palolem”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 3, 2013

It is true, that you could find way more inexpensive beach hut along the Palolem. But coming here for a several times, I can say these are for sure one of nicest beach huts available. The restaurant has very nice laid-back atmosphere and serves many types of different cuisines. The service is not the cheapest, but expect to pay a fair price and get reliable service. I would also recommend this place to solo women travelers which I cannot say for some other properties along the beach.

Room Tip: It is worth spending a few euros more for one of the front upper beach hut.

I made a reservation with Fernandes online for 2 weeks and was quoted 1800 rupees per night. I dealt with Sash and he was very helpful and arranged for a taxi to meet us at the airport for 1400 rupees which is the going rate.

Luckily i didn't have to pay a penny up front for my reservation. After arriving I took a walk and discovered I could get a hut almost identical at Brendon's (with Wifi as well) for just 800 rupees a night. I returned to Fernandes and told Sash this and asked if he was willing to price match. He refused. After a couple of hours deliberation while exploring the beach we "checked out". I hadn't unpacked, or stayed the night. Sash was not around so we explained to staff who threatened to call the police. We left and checked into Brendon's. We were enjoying a bottle of wine in the restaurant when Sash turned up and started shouting at us in front of all the staff and guests at Brendon's. He was angry he had lost 1800 r x 14 nights. I explained he was charging more than double for the same type of hut and I had given him the chance to give us a better rate. I offered him 800 rupees for any inconvenience, he refused. I felt guilty afterwards and we returned and paid him 1800 Rs for that first night even though we didn't stay there. He wasn't grateful or conciliatory and I regretted the gesture, especially as I discovered that all along the beach there are huts of the same quality all charging 800 Rs. My advice? Do not book in advance or if you must only book one night. On your first day shop around and get a hut for between 600rs - 800rs. Never pay for a room more than two days in advance - it's amazing how your plans change when you discover something about your accommodation you don't like: noise, pests, rats, noisy neighbours, dogs, dodgy plumbing etc. it was very busy at the end of january but there was still no shortage of huts available all along the beach.

Absolutely fantastic, no where beats it for stunning location on the best beach in goa. Second to none for ambience , quality food and rooms, and impeccable service at an amazing price. If you come once you will come every year for sure.

We stayed in one of the upper huts and really enjoyed the fantastic view. Even as we had to move to another place as Fernandes was full, we kept coming back to the restaurant for the friendly and laid back atmosphere.

Early in the season, Fernandes is one of the few beachside cafes that is up and running. Located about midway along the northern half of Palolem beach, it's a great place to kick off the flip flops, grab a pew and just watch life go by on the adjacent sand and surf. Very laid back atmosphere and decent menu, everything is cheap and cheerful; especially tasty shakes and lassis, some standard curry fare and the usual toast+anything when you need a spice break. The beach at Palolem, though lovely, is pretty shadeless and the midday sun can get to feel a little unrelenting so somewhere like Fernandes is a great idea to recharge between dips in the ocean.

everything we expected from a beach shack! Nice to have the hammock outside. Mosquitoes a bit annoying - just remember lots of spray. Very reasonable price. Would recommend staying here. Although the beach was beginning to close up when we arived.

This was by far the most disgusting place we have stayed in India during our eight months of travel. We had a family cabin by the staff toilet and the cabin was infested with rats. The rats were in our bags, climbing all over the cabin and were completely at home and unafraid of humans. We switched to another cabin on stilts but we still had rats....we switched hotels after that. The only nice thing I can say is that the beach is gorgeous and they are in a great location but you can find much cleaner options for half the price.
