“Back after 18 years.”
Reviewed July 29, 2014

We first visited Santiago in 1996 and just never got around to going back.David and Paul were still serving drinks and food but Orlando had just recently retired. The Staff, old and new, are just an absolute joy and the food/drink was as good as before. The Head Chef Joseph and his Team will make you any meal you want, you are not restricted by the Buffet meals, a la carte is always available at no extra cost. The rooms have been updated generally and most if not all have Air conditioning and TV. However, please do not judge the Hotel by Las Vegas standards, this is India. Baga beach is about a 10 minute walk and is also entertaining. The street bars are very good as well. Just sit by the pool and let the Staff pamper you. PS. We have re- booked 21 days in January 2015.

Room Tip: Rooms around the Pool are the best as you can retire to the Balcony after Dinner and enjoy the Live...

I read all the wonderful reviews about Santiago Resort and booked my room there. The pictures are quite misleading. The otel looks more like a private apartment. The rooms are basic.. Breakfast is very basic with limited choice. The fans in the open air restaurant area where they serve breakfast dont work. You have to sweat it out and eat.
I asked for towels to be changed in the next day and was in for a shock when the house keeping and front office replied curtly saying that linen and towels are changed every alternate day and I have to manage with dirty or wet towels. I had to raise a hue and cry and go up to calling the manager to get my towels changed.
To top it all I had parked my car in the hotel premises right next to the security guard. In the morning I found 3 scratches and 2 dents in my car.. On asking the security he said that the night shift guy would be knowing.I was furious and brought the manager and showed him the car. All he had to say was Sorry and said he will change the night shift security. The loss was close to 7000 Rs.
I had really high hopes on this hotel and picked it over Ondas De Mar Resort. Regret my decision. Will never go back to this hotel again.
Its all big hype and poor show. They have a lot of Russians staying in this hotel and bother for only them. There is very little concern for Indian guests. Avoud this place. There are lot of better places in baga calangute area for the price these guys charge.

Room Tip: Try taking rooms which have split Ac.the window Acs are very noisy.

We have been going back to Santiago since 3 years. It is a small hotel inside a narrow lane off the main Baga road. We used to walk back even at 4 in the morning without issues though. The staff make you feel at home and is wonderful. They are the key to this hotel's niceness. The rooms are clean, well equipped and have two sections--a bedroom and a living room. The living room has a fridge, TV, sofa unit, mirror, sink, electric kettle and fan. The bedroom area is small and has an ensuit balcony. We stayed in the ground floor rooms this year, which appeared newly renovated/painted. Breakfast is not bad for Indians but very limited for foreigners.
We still love the place, and intend to come back again.

We stayed for 3 days here in May 2014. We got a good discount on cleartrip. The Hotel is nice and decent cant say beautiful. Location is good. Its on baga road. Breakfast is average. They served 2-3 indian dishes along with bread and tea/coffee. Staff is friendly. The rooms are bit small bt decent enuf for a short stay.

My husband and I stayed at the Santiago Hotel in Baga, Goa for 5 nights around Easter 2014. Our last visit to this hotel was 8 years ago and we were impressed that most of the staff were still there. As many reviewers have stated, Santiago Hotel is a home away from home. Our Room #168 was well positioned and comfortable. The extra room and balcony overlooking the pool provided a great retreat particularly when hubby wanted to lie in. The pool area closes at 6pm and is transformed into a picturesque alfresco setting with entertainment provided occasionally – more so in the peak season I understand.
The breakfasts, particularly the omelettes are so yummy. There is a small variety but certainly ample, which changes every day providing the opportunity to try everything.
Some reviewers have commented on the “tired look” of the property. These are possibly older reviews, personally for a 3 star hotel, I think it presents very well, and did not have a problem with it. The return of so many guests to this hotel every year is testimony itself to the popularity of this hotel.
The staff are the greatest asset to this hotel – Walter, David, Sunil, Michael and all the other wonderful team – apologies for not remembering all the names. The barman makes the best cocktails so do try them.
Wifi cards can be bought for about R100 for 1 hour, but this can be used over 24 hours. There are also 24 hour cards which cost slightly more. We only purchased the 1 hour cards and that suited our needs perfectly. I don’t think Wifi is generally offered free in Goa hotels.
At the end of the day to relax at the pool restaurant and gaze into the striking backdrop of the illuminated hotel exterior was such a treat. We look forward to visiting Santiago again.

The hotel's pictures on the website are all enhanced to beautify. It is less than an average hotel, the TV was not working, the water bottles seal were broken. Air conditioner did not function properly. Breakfast spread was good, thats it, the quality was not the best in the world. Location of the hotel is also not the best in the world Overall do not recommend this hotel
