“Week Family Stay with Kids”
Reviewed December 4, 2013

I went with my two young kids( 4 y & 8 m ) and wife for a 4 days stay to North 16. I got a fantastic deal for 4 nights which i later extended to 6 nights. The room was just next to the pool. I have read many reviews of people here but fortunately my experience has been largely positive.

The Good: Amazing property, though advertised as a 5 star it can be max a 4 star. The kids room was awsome and fully stocked for young as well as grown up kids with Xbox video games and cartoons on a large projector screen with blocks and all sorts of toys. The pool was good for a lazy afternoon dip with a small pool for kids. THE ROOM: Since this is ex-Swissotel everything is imported and of best quality from Super clean bedhseets to pillows to towels. Since it is situated near the Calangute Cirle , Candolim, Aguda, Calangute, Baga and Anjuna beaches are easily accessible.

Could improve: F&B PRICES. : The prices of all the food Items are in 5 star range though should have been reduced by atleast 40% for inhouse guests to order comfortably. RESTAURANT: its more of a coffee shop which gets really crowded in morning during breakfast. Repeated Breakfast menu day after day. . No Inhouse SPA: For a hotel this standard a SPA is a must . The kids room only opens till 6 PM , this should have been till late. ( Goa wakes up at 10 PM.)

Not so good.: LOCATION: The approach to the hotel is from a shady lane which should be avoided in nights for alone travelers. Though not very far from the main road, There was no Sign or Board with hotel name from the main road.

Will I go again : Definitely . My kids loved the place so did I.

Room Tip: Ask for a free upgrade to poolside rooms. These are bigger and with easy access to Pool. Insist on B...

Hi all,

just came back home from 3 nights stay at North 16, Calangute. (formerly known as Swissotel)

This is not a FIVE star hotel as marketed by all online hotel booking sites (both Indian and International).

The BADS:

1. As soon as we checked in the hotel guy told us that we got ROOM ONLY and it doesnt include breakfast. However on the hotel voucher it was clearly written that breakfast is included. Even worst, all 4 days no body was at the restaurant reception to check whos eating and is from which room!!

2. Empty Mini Bar! LOL now thats not a FIVE star. No Hair Drier, No room sleepers, No soap holder in shower are, that means you have to grab the soap from basin and get back to shower again... Hahaha sounds funny...

3. TV works but with lot of SNOW.... NO DIGITAL TV!! IT IS A LOCAL CABLE TV... that means they are breaking the rules of Indian Broadcasting!! Set-top-box is compulsory even for homes.. LOL.. 1 STAR HOTEL.

4. When we booked i got Advantage Room 1, other categories were Deluxe and Grand room... When i requested for Pool View room, they said it is clearly written that yours is Room Type 1 which is non Pool View and there is a ROOM 2 Type which is Pool view... I checked back all online reservation sites, include the one on which i had booked my room, but i could not find a room category ROOM 2!! Now white lies....
They said it is clearly written on Make My Trip "With Pool View" And "Without Pool View" .. i searched twice and couldnt find and even showed them the same site and explained that your claims are false but they yet had to give me a Non Pool View..

Fine i dont complaint.

Worst Starts here..

Break FAST: Eat as fast as you can because we are closing soon!!! Thats what breakfast means for them!!

First of all very poor Break fast, taste and variety.. They had repeated break fast every day and bad taste...
They had only 5 People Staff in the whole of the restaurant to manage 100 People! and Poor those 5 guys were having a night mare...

You get idli but you dont have sambhar, you get bread but not Butter, You get glass but not juice etc etc...

We literally had to wait half an hour to grab 1 POORI!!! LOL and after waiting for half an hour they shocked us saying we are closing!!!

It isnt their fault though, it was a diwali long weekend and they wouldnt have dreamt so much of reservation!

they need a LARGE Restaurant where enough people can sit... and Lot of Staff to serve and cook. Also they need to have multiple serving tables as there were 50 people standing to grab 5 breads coming out of the kitchen!!! Even beggars on street has a better fortune...

NOW POOL...........

Lot of People said fantastic pool and good pool view.. Accepted... Pool is good but not the great.. I mean do you really go to GOA to wet your self in a POOL? LOL.. There are so many lovely beaches go have a bath...

And lately the phones and LIFTS didnt work.... ROOM PHONES were not working for 2 Days.... And the main TWO LIfts were not working for 1 and half days... ONLY 1 LIFT was working for the block so we had to walk miles and miles to reach reception..... WORST not even a single star here...

I am still going for 4 STAR... For below few reasons:

1. The enthusiasm of the staff in the restaurant was great... it wasnt in their hand to control the situation.. Poor guys.. They have been assigned an elephant to take care with no water and food!

2. It is a new construction and location is good...Just walking distance of Calangute and baga beach.

3. I got a fantastic deal.. 3 nights at a 2 star rate. So i am not complaining at all.. If i had paid a 4 star or 5 star rate then it is not even worth spending a night.

4. Do not mistaken yourself for a 5 star rating for this property...

5. If you get a good deal, cheap rate go for it but don't expect a Five star treatment and prepare yourself for worst breakfast...

Cheers happy times in GOA...

Room Tip: Take a room nearer to Restaurant and Pool, so that you dont have to take a long walk to your room. M...

Spent two nights at this new hotel. In summary:
- worthy of a 4 star rating
- room very nice, all new fittings, very comfortable bed, good air con
- mini bar wasn't stocked but I didn't want to use it
- large/huge shower
- gave us a late check out till 2pm with no fuss
- organised spa massage for me and my friend at nearby spa with cost of return taxi fare included - great spa by the way
- wireless only works in or close to reception/lobby area and not in rooms and even there it dropped out a couple of times
- bathroom sink area could do with some shelves to put stuff on
- breakfast restaurant gets crowded quickly and little room to move when it is busy
- my room key failed on 2nd day and it took three visits to reception to get it fixed.

In summary the place is new and there are teething problems. It is a good 15 - 20 minute walk to the beach which was fine and we did it several times. It's also away from the main thoroughfare which is nice as it's quiet. Only a short walk to the town centre though.

Stayed here for 5 nights after reading the tripadvisor reviews. Not a bad spot but is lacking something. Relatively modern although seems to be lacking some TLC in parts. Was very quiet when I stayed so also lacked atmosphere. Almost felt like a quiet group of apartments than a jostling hotel.

Pro's
- Great location/Very central
- Awesome pool area,… but again quiet
- Good food
- Helpful hospitality staff around pool and bar
- Modern looking
- Big rooms

Con's
- Reception staff were not as welcoming as I have come to expect from India
- Building needs a little TLC to keep the modern feel (structurally fine, just windows cleaned and a lick of paint)
- Was very quiet
- Free wifi only in lobby

An ok stay, but I hope the new owners (it's now called NORTH16) invest some time and effort to make it as great as it could be.

PS. Th taxi driver from the airport did not know where this hotel was. Have the address ready or the Hotel phone number.

Now called North 16.

Pros:
- stylish modern decor and furnishings
- lovely pool
- travel adapters inbuilt into wall
- well equipped gym
- helpful staff

Cons:
- location: 10-15 minute walk to the beach but further away from the more fun area of baga
- hotel is located in a back alley (it's quite strange to have to walk through a dimly lit jungle area to reach the hotel from the main road at night)
- dimly lit rooms

Overall it was a nice hotel with good amenities.
