I was a bit concerned after reading some of the negative comments re this hotel...I had nothing to worry about. A good 2* base in the heart of Calangute. Rooms adequate, ask for a pool view. Friendly staff with wonderful housekeepers that can not do enough for you. Restaurant food very good, salon staff very talented, tailor a delight...I could go on.

Stayed in Santa Monica for Xmas and New Year, rooms were basic but clean, not a very good outlook at the back, but we did not stay in the room that long. The extra space is a bonus. The staff are very friendly and we found the location of the hotel local enough to the centre of Calangute.
There is a jeweller in site, Mustafa, I took some broken bracelets and bits to be redesigned, I had enough gold to make a new solid gold bracelet, we discussed design's and 3 days later I received a beautiful bracelet, all for the cost of £20 (Can you beleive that) I was that please I bought a ring and had it valued when I got home to find it was worth more than 1 1/2 times what I paid for it, he's well worth a visit.
If you fancy a visit to the Casino's in Panjim, check out the prices before you go, the entrance fee can be quite dear.

ive just come back from 2 weeks in goa, i had a brilliant holiday, santa monica resort was basic but really nice, all staff brilliant and cant do enough for you. i will definatley be going back next year and i will again stay at the santa monica. goa is a lovley place to go, although i will stress this is not for children, the sea is really rough and not for weak swimmers, i had fun so did my family because we are all strong swimmers and loved jumping the waves! the roads are dangerous also. i left my children at home with my husband, and im glad i did! the whole of goa was an adult relaxing place to be! i know my kids - oldest 15 and youngest 6, would not have liked this hol as it is adult orientated throughout! at first its a real culture shock but you soon get used to it! i recommend having dinner at the horison hotel, days at baga beach at the blue moon shack and go to the waterfall and spice, all fantastic, be careful what or where you eat, i had 2 days in bed with food poistioning from a beach shack, not the blue moon! all in all i give this hoilday 10 out of 10, enjoy yourself!

The hotel itself is pretty standard by comparison of other hotels in the area, there is no comparison to a 3star hotel in spain, portugal however, if comparing with those resorts, this would be more of a 2 star. That said the room was cleaned daily, towels changed daily (when they forgot, a quick call to reception sorted it), The only negative point, as said in previous reviews is the beds, you might as well sleep on the floor they are that hard, i put the cushions from the chairs ontop of my mattress and it did make a difference, other than that be prepared to be bruised and sore.

The food at the hotel was amazing, especially the tandorri chicken, and cheesy garlic nan, there wasnt anything on the menu we tried that wasnt nice.

The locals are soooo friendly, the taxis are cheap, if your staying at this hotel or nearby give neil a ring on [-] tell him youve been given his number by helen from the santa monica, he is lovely and helpful and really cheap.

A word of advise if this is your 1st visit to india, make sure you barter for everything, whatever price they ask for start off halfing it, then pay no more than 3quarters of the original price.

A typical days beer and meals (in the same bar/restraunt), for 4 people comes to about £20.00
