“Basic. Clean. Nice Staff”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 10, 2014 via mobile

Stayed here a few years back on a girls holiday and had a fab time. The room was basic but clean. We wasn't really bothered as we were out most of the day and night. Bathroom was small but we were kept clean and fresh.

The hotel room was Ok.But the FAN was not working properly and it was nightmare in GOA during Summer to sleep without FAN and ventilation. The compilmentary breakfast was eyewash with, only sandwich to eat and nothing else. The so called swimming pool was only for kids and it is a pity to call it a swimmimg pool. The food rate was very high and the quality not much to talk about. As far as location is concerned,it is around 2 KM from the calangute beach.

We were given a room without aircondition so we upgraded it for £50 to one with a/c and we got this nice room overlooking the main pool. However all of the room have a large fan on the bedroom ceiling so the a/c is not that necessary.

The hotel is really basic but I guess most of them are in India anyways. During the day half of the pool area was covered by shadows but in the morning it was perfect for a little dip in the pool. They don't have many lounge chairs but always some available. They also have ping pong table in the back which was nice.

The bar and reception staff were always nice and helpful. The cleaners couldn't do enough for us, extremely nice when asking to come back later or extra towels or to change sheets. They came every day!
The breakfast included toast with butter and jams, coffee/tea and juice. You had to pay only little extra for eggs etc.
We ate dinner at the hotel twice during our 2 weeks stay using the coupons for free dinner. The buffet dinners included a variety of dishes and a dessert. Also the pool bar offered some snacks to buy during lunch time, we tried some fruits and burgers and they were good.

Overall our stay at Osborne was great. We didn't know anything about Goa before we arrived so we had no expectations. We met loads of people who we are still friends with.

We stayed at the Osborne in March 2014 and had a fantastic week there. We found the hotel to be quite basic and in need of a bit of a face lift but remember, this is India!! However, the staff were friendly and couldn't do enough for you, the rooms were cleaned every day (if you wanted it), the breakfast included in the price was toast, juice and tea/coffee but extras were only a very small cost. In addition, we were given 3 complementary vouchers to have dinner there too, so were were almost half board! The resort consists of three hotels - each with their own pool and dining but all accessible to everyone. Although the hotel was basic, it was clean and had well kept small gardens around each pool. The rooms were enormous with a wet room and an extra room for luggage, ?dressing. There were no lamps, telephones, kettle, hairdryer or toilettries but the place was a little like the Marigold Hotel with large wooden windows that opened out to the pool area and to the side of the hotel. When the windows were open, all you could see was the green of the trees surrounding and hear the birds singing. The location was also excellent - we were in walking distance of everything we needed - 10/15 mins from the beach and 15/20 mins from Calangute centre. What an experience India was though - the people are lovely, they clearly like having tourists and make a lot of effort to be friendly. Of course they want you to go into their shops/buy their goods but we did not feel hassled and they took no for an answer. Everything is really cheap and I would not bother to take toilettries or beach towels in future, they were pennies to buy there. We always felt safe there and did not experience anything antisocial. The beach is miles of golden sand and the sea is like a warm bath. The beach shacks are great value and as long as you buy drinks there, you can lie on their sun loungers all day. We spent a whole day there, had drinks all day long and a curry for lunch and the whole bill was £7 at the end of the day. We will definitely return to Goa and will gladly stay at the Osborne again.

Our third time at the Osborne in as many years and once again we weren't disappointed. There had been some terrible reviews and we weren't sure what to expect however we were greeted like returning family by all the staff. Check in was a breeze , our forms ready for us (we didn't even need to get the confirmation out), the reception staff very pleasant as usual. We were given rooms we'd asked for in phase 2 , both overlooking pool on first floor. These were the best rooms we've ever had , clean, new mattresses, new plug sockets , basic but that was what we'd expected .Our rooms were cleaned every day and two fresh towels each per day, the mini bar was stocked up regularly we couldn't really have asked for any more.
As I've said before the best thing about the Osborne is the staff , especially the bar staff ( Sandy, Martin, Bippin, Ash, Olwen, Bitish and Sam ...and all the others ) They look after you like royalty and sandy even checked on my husband when he was poorly, I think we are lucky because the hotel isn't as busy when we go in April and they have more time .Francis makes sure everything is running as it should be.
The free buffets are still delicious with something for everyone and whilst breakfast is only toast when we asked for it freshly made (i.e not like a brick) we got it. You can order other things if you want , the poached eggs are lovely and cost about a pound.
The Osborne is in a great position , near enough to get to the beach or shops or restaurants easily but quiet and peaceful if you want to just chill by the pool. There is an excellent taxi service just outside reception if you want to venture further, and if you need to change money there's a tiny shop outside with a lovely lady called Julie , and if you want a sim card for cheap phone calls or anything else you've forgotten there's Babuttes just round the corner. (they do excellent lamb chops there too).
Our favourite eating places this time, obviously Chef Souyemans (the best steak , fish and chips and service),café Lazy Days( real Cumberland sausage with mash and onion gravy. yum), Go With the Flow ( for an amazing experience eating in what can only be described as a star wars pod on top of a hill, with spectacular views and equally spectacular food) and my absolute favourite, a hog roast on the beach at the Rovers Return (how they managed to produce food that good in a shack we don't know but it was delicious).
We had another fantastic holiday.

Room Tip: Phase 2 B5 or B8

We stayed in the Osborne 3rd March for 2 weeks, very wary after the bad reviews. Hotel very basic, but clean towels every day, clean bedding every 3rd day, shower(wet room) powerful and hot, no plug in sink. rooms massive, room boys friendly, so happy with this for the price we paid,Kept our room on for last day only £5.00 ate once with the voucher, but found food basic and to eat out is so cheap we wanted to try different places. Over the flames beautiful food, ate there a few times, Fishermans cove also fantastic, tried all types of Indian food, never had one bad meal. Also fillet steaks,,,,best we've ever had and cost under £4.00 !!! stayed at Aggies shack during the day, food as good as the restaraunts. we would have drinks during the day and our lunch, and pay at the end of the day, never more than £8.00 for the both of us try the butter chicken and Aggies special noodles or rice, mouthwatering.Goa was an amazing experience and like many others we met, we will return.
